Q: Will these fit in an actual graveside vase as an insert not using the stake at the bottom? I need something to keep the water in for flowers.

Yes it will. I did my flowers at home and cut the point off and dropped them in the vases on the monument.

Q: I'm confused-how many total vases are included?

Two vases, two spikes, two styrofoam shaped pieces. Spikes twist to the bottom of each vase and you put the styrofoam inside the vase. One drawback: Water collects inside vase so you need to drain constantly or else the styrofoam and flowers will eventually float out! Solution: drill holes at near bottom sides of the vases if used outdoors. Experiment if you can hammer nails without breaking the plastic vases. Second drawback: Spikes can twist off if you are not careful. I used these to put around my Mother’s grave site. Worked well but I visited her resting place often and poured out sprinkler/rain water about twice a week. Otherwise, I recommend these vases in dry weather or inside. I later thought to glue the styrofoam permanently after drilling drainage holes. These vases lasted about two years outdoors easily. I replaced them with larger ones that styrofoam was permanently glued but still needed drainage holes.
