On the road to making the Graceland Concert
This is an historically important DVD, that covers, Music,Politics, and Societal issues. The South African, Graceland Concert was musical brilliance. This DVD gives a behind the scenes look and listen to the Artists, their opinions, comments, and insight. You are given a musical โflavorโ of the Concert, how it came together, something which isnot available on the Graceland Concert DVD. This is worth purchasing, as it will enhance the experienceand understanding of the Concert by giving a โback stage passโ not seen elsewhere. This DVD gives youa window into the Concert, but it also gives you something more which canโt be seen in the Concert DVD. Here are the nuts and bolts.

A Man Walks Down the Street...
No matter what the subject is, most people scream and run the other direction when they hear the word "documentary", but this is an insightful, personal look at the creative process that created one of the American music industry's most successful albums.Paul Simon and his musical cohorts offer personal stories, recording footage, and a history of not only of the album, but the circumstances--both private and international--that influenced the birth of the concept. The only drawback to this collection is that one never sees a video from start to finish; and that--or a complete song performed live--would have been nice.

classsic albums
a great in depth view into the makings of a great album, showing how music can help bridge divides and spawn inspiration. an interesting cross selection of interview with friends, musicians and producer. would recommend if you loved the album, if your looking for a new directions with you sound, or your interested in music and human relations.

Best Album!!!
I always loved this album and recently saw a special about the problems Paul Simon experienced while making this 25 year old album. It was a beautifully done film and of course I had to get myself a CD to replace my old cassette that I'm sure I have somewhere. The music is like no other and it's mesmerizing. I must say it's my favorite album of all time.

Something out of the ordinary
Perhaps I was expecting too much but Paul Simons help & time given to African music is truly a hallmark just a little disappointed to find that since 14 million of Graceland were sold perhaps more music could have been added to this 75 minute tape thus enhancing the fervent musical nature of this special.

Nice!
What I want is the actual concert. This was a good historical account of Graceland. Paul Simon was a great instrument to bring people together. Genius.

and enjoyed watching it
When I bought thisDVD, I really meant to buy the "Graceland" concert. But after I learned this was a program o the makings of that Paul Simon concert, I became interested, and enjoyed watching it. I was glad to learn more about Paul Simon, his concert, and people's reaction to it all.

I was very disappointed. It was not presented as a documentary
I was very disappointed. It was not presented as a documentary. I thought is was the original DVD. But as a documentary it was very well done.

Great Album, Good DVD
Very good album and this is a great Classic Albums episode discussing the recording of the album. It includes track by track stories and performances and Paul Simon, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Miriam Makeba all participate in the programme.I thoroughly enjoy this DVD and would recommend further titles in this series such as 'U2 - The Joshua Tree', 'Nirvana - Nevermind' 'John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band'.Just one final point I want to make and that is I wished the still made intelligent Music documentaries like this now instead of the current crop 'The Stones in Exile (2010)' being a refreshing exception.

A real insight
A great DVD (especially combined with the African Concert DVD) it provides a real insight into the production of the album with interviews with Paul Simon, the producer, and some of the African musicians who performed on many (if not all) of the tracks.Loved to hear how they describe putting together the music and playing one intrument off against another. DVD also inculdes vision/tracks from the African concert so if you can only buy one of the two get this one - otherwise lash out & get both - I did.Its the sought of music you can put on for some background atmosphere, or crank it right up - and get down with the rythm.

Not what I expected
DVD was good, but it was not what I expected. It would have been good if there had been a list of contents.
