Compliments Rockferry Perfectly
"Endlessly" demonstates that Duffy can apply some "umph" to here music and does not have to rely heavily on ballads. For me this is a perfect complliment to "Rockferry" as it provides a contrast in style whilst having the same kind of quality feel to the material that would fit amongst the best produced in previous generations. So I am actually annoyed that critics took a generally less favourable view of this album which clearly had an impact on it's performance and possiblly even knocked Duffy's confidence. So I am going to say that I think those critics were wrong and I have not hesitation in awarding this album 5 stars and am pleased after reading reviews in comparisson to "Rockferry" that I enjoyed this album just as much.I would actually say that Duffy demonstrates more versatility than Adele did on her first two albums ("19" and "21").I understand Duffy has chosen to take a break before releasing a third album. I hope she comes back with gusto and demonstrates the critcism of this album was unjustified. Like "Rockferry" before it, there is not a single poor track on the album.

There are some harsh reviews of this album - and whilst I see why, I think they are somewhat harsh. The yardstick is the fantastic Rockferry of course - without doubt one of my "top 10 albums of all time", so it is a tough act to follow. This album is a little more "poppy" in areas, which for an old-timer like me takes a little getting used to, but the single "Well, well, well" has turned into a real ear-worm! The stand out tracks are classic Duffy, though - and well worthy of any "Best of Duffy" offering. "Take my Breath Away" with it's beautiful strings and crescendo, similarly "Don't Forsake Me" and the title track could play on an endless loop. "Girl" is a lot of fun. I bough this album with some trepidation, having fallen in love with Duffy when I heard Rockferry. Result - I am happy, and I still love Duffy!

I find this album to be even better than her debut album
Duffy was much criticized for her second album - I dont understand any of that. I find this album to be even better than her debut album. In my humble view it has more passion and personality than the first one. The outstanding heartfelt songs like "Too hurt to dance" and "Breath away" combined with upliftet hit songs like "Keeping my baby" and the smash hit "well, well, well" makes this album a "must buy". Sure there a strange dicisions made on some of the songs but the small flaws here and there only makes this album more personal and and edgy. Thank you so much Duffy for the making this album - Kaspar

Give it time and space
Like many others, I suspect, I pre-ordered this album the moment I saw it on Amazon purely on the strength of "Rockferry". When it finally turned up I was sadly disappointed: Duffy's idiosyncratic vocal style on "My Boy" seemed over-stated and annoying and after the first run through there was not one stand-out song.I gave the album a second chance and this time it was better but still nothing special. Then I heard Duffy interviewed on Radio 2 and I was struck by her "This is me, like it or hate it" attitude so I listened again. Without the comparison to Rockferry and clicking Repeat on "Too hurt to dance" and on "Hard for the Heart" and I find that I like Endlessly for itself.Only four stars for that initial disappointment, but do buy it and then give it time.

Duffy 2
I think the sound quality produced on this, Duffy's 2nd cd is timeless and I will be listening to Endlessly whilst driving in the car for a long time to come. The voice is so unique and I hope she has another bite at the apple sooner than later.Great bbq music too by the way!5 star quality is not enough...deserves much more.

Very Expansive On Her Debut
Considering the enormous hype surrounding her debut Rockferry ,her follow up album could've easily sank into pure oblivion. That didn't happen. Not only did her music gain the attention of the public, but of other musicians as well. The question was which ones would actually be involved with her as she prepared her follow up. The hip-hop band The Roots had a sturdy reputation in the New York recording industry in which Duffy was heavily involved in during this time-in everything from Dave Chappell's shows to eventually becoming the the house band for Jimmy Fallon's late night TV show. Needless to say they seemed to have jumped at the chance to be involved with an musical artist again. Especially someone whose creative vision was leading dow a similar path as their own. And this sophomore album was the result of all that. Right off the bat, with it's rhythmically dynamic blend of of bass/guitar interaction and bass-synthesizer accents "My Boy" showcases that we're dealing with a more uptempo and funkier Duffy this time out. Her vocals have also gained a new level of expression too-expressing even greater earnestness than before. "Well,Well,Well" is the most deliciously funky piece of music Duffy has made. With The Roots working out with Questlove's intense JB inspired poly-rhythms and that slippery basslines,Duffy pours the right amount of vocal grit and moxy into it as well. On "Keeping My Baby" and "Lovestruck" there's a strong dance/rock element added with extremely defined melodies and overlapped bass/synthesizer layers. On "Girl" the Roots again catch onto a nicely spare post disco boogie funk type vibe that's very appealing. It's on the ballads "Too Hurt To Dance","Don't Forsake Me","Breath Away" and the title song that are closer to the music of her debut album. Difference is all of them are somewhat more epic in stature. That all before the closing sonf "Hard For The Heart",a cinematically soulful experience that builds in tempo throughout. I noticed reading other reviews here that this album isn't quite as creatively appreciated as her debut. Mostly referring to her more aggressive and biting vocal approach. Actually I personally find this to be just about the right extension she should've had from her debut. It would've been very easy for her to hook up with a very commercially minded producer for a sound filled with overwhelming electronics and repetitive chants as with so many other artists trying to get attention. But she surrounded herself with contemporary musicians with that song-craft/highly instrumental musical approach she seems to prefer. And considering the quality of the results,I more than respect that. Rockferry

Bene

Anspieltipps:My BoyLovestruckBreath AwayWell, Well, WellGirl
