Bigger than it looks
The weight was hefty, which is good for keeping it in one spot. I actually put it on my little Weber grill and it works perfectly. The damper is alsogreat. It is very easy to light and adjust as needed. I like it so much better than my big fire pits.

Smokeless and great for screened porch!
This is exactly as described… it was smokeless … we went around and picked up sticks after a storm and broke them up and used as firewood… it stayed lit … we roasted marshmallows and it was just nice. Easy to put fire out and will be using this often. Def recommend!

Excellent value for a firepit with a damper
The media could not be loaded. I bought this on-sale for 17.99 which was a stellar deal yet even at the normal price it’s an exceptional value for a firepit that comes with an adjustable damper to control the size of the flames. Virtually smokeless when using pellets. A true gasification stove. After first use the stainless started turning a lovely copper color from the high temps. Add a small grill and you could cook a hamburg or a couple of hot dogs.Highly recommend!

What I expected for the size.
I will provide a detailed, actual lengthy use(about 2.5 hours) review. Had a cool evening and decided to fire up this "cute little thing". As I said, it is small and I think, designed to function as such, a front porch stoop(which I did) kind of device, and a tabletop will work too. I would also feel safe using it on a wooden deck. I say that with caution, not because of the heat generated off the unit, but because I touched the fold-out feet at peak temperature and they were not hot at all. The underside was not hot enough to discolor wood either. I however would use some additional protection(a baking sheet?) underneath. That cautionary statement is for longer pieces of wood that may fall out over the top edge. The ideal length of wood pieces should be 6-7 inches. I did use longer pieces, 8-9 inches, and knew that as those burned, they may tend to fall over the top edge and out. As I stated, I gave it a good workout and yes, you have to be attentive while using this. So, all that being said, this will work great with kids and marshmallows and an adult close by. Maybe even hotdogs too. To me, this is not about the heat like around a campfire but rather, the enjoyment of watching a fire up close outdoors at night, at home. Heat output can be felt but only a foot away. Out of the box, it's very easy to assemble without using the instructions. It is well made of quality materials. I gave it a thorough workout. I have a wood-burning fireplace in my home that I use often during fall and winter. I cut down trees, section them, and split those pieces by hand with a maul/axe. During that process, I get plenty of small kindling. I used most of that during this initial use. Started with the very small pieces to get things started. Simply light the ends and stand them upright in the stainless steel cylinder. You should expect to be very attentive while using this as the fuel burns quickly at first. I then loaded thicker pieces that took longer to burn. There is a knob/lever on the bottom side to control airflow and when you find the right setting the burning process is smooth. As far as being smokeless, that also depends on the adjustment of airflow. Large smokeless fire pits are designed with holes around the top edge of a steel sleeve. The inner sleeve of this has the same type of cut holes and you can see the air feeding the flames through those holes during the burning to minimize smoke. To finish this review - I would prefer a larger design and some way to let the used wood ash, and burnt chunks be let out somehow, like the lever on my Weber grill. You can move that side to side and the spent debris/ashes falls through. There are holes in the bottom of this inner cylinder but no way to help the ashes fall through so they get clogged up. This also begins to hinder upward airflow. Towards the end of my session using this, that stuff had built up halfway into the cylinder making it difficult to continue adding more wood. I know this is not designed as such. It is meant to be used for an hour maybe two so, don't expect any more out of this and that's OK. It is what it is - a "cute little thing" for what it can do. After that, you'll have to wait until morning to dump out the ashes. I will use it again on my front stoop on a cool night since I love watching fires like this outdoors. If I want more, I have an actual fire pit behind my home or a real wood-burning fireplace inside. Hope this helps you decide and now you understand the 4-star rating.
