Great horror remake.
I consider this film to be one of the best horror remakes from the 2000s. I love the fast paced action atmosphere of the film and the films portrayal of zombies. It's got great acting and characters as well.

A remake worth seeing
Having been a fan of the original Romero trilogy I really wasn't expecting much from this. However this is well worth seeing and I'd have given 3.5 stars if that had been possible. The opening scenes are perhaps the highlight, but the film manages to maintain an edgy atmosphere throughout. I only have the DVD and I'd certainly get a bluray upgrade, as I think this would look good in HD.Well worth considering if you like zombies!

When a review on Amazon says "verified purchase", don't believe it!
I recently bought the version of this film available on Amazon. It's a fine film in English, with great image quality and it is the extended edition. Unfortunately, the reviews that Amazon claims to be of "verified purchases" are not reviews of the blu ray I bought. The blu ray here has no special features and no director's commentary. I realise Amazon is a major company and it is difficult for them to keep track of every new and updated release, but to include the review of a different release of a film and claim that this is a "verified purchase" is quite clearly false advertising. To the vast majority of people, it might not matter. They might not want to listen to a director's commentary or see the special features but some might be buying the film on the understanding that this is exactly the version of the product they are buying.Having said that, this is a very nice version of the film, and if it's just the film you want, I would recommend it. But it is always disappointing to be misled by a website even if it is only by accident.

Not too many shocks
Quite good but not a classic. Could have done with a little more suspense.

Everybody dies?
This is not quite a great film but it is certainly a very good film, with what I think is one of the best opening sequences to a horror film ever, it fades a little in the middle but the ending is great. On first viewing it scared the pants of me but now I can simply watch it and admire some clever screen writing, excellent photography, very clever soundtrack, great special effects and makeup and some powerful action scenes. I defy anyone to not be impressed by the beautiful build in the first few minutes to all out chaos and the scenes of the city from above are briliant. The acting is fantastic with a really great cast, Sarah Polley makes a great heroine. The fast moving zombies may not be to everyone's taste but they work for me.I didn't think the director's cut added much of value, in fact I preferred the less cluttered version I saw on TV.The DVD extras including Andy's diary and "We interrupt this broadcast" are Ok but no where near the standard of the film and are for completists only.If you haven't seen this before make sure you watch the end credits otherwise you'll miss the brilliantly bleak ending.Enjoy.
