Bugs Galore

"Beautiful Bug Book"
It's Valentine's Day, so I gave my son a book: Bugs Galore. I definitely am not a fan of bugs. I will rescue any ladybug unlucky enough to end up in our house; I won't kill spiders if I know they are innocuous; and I'll even leave fire ant nests alone if there are in areas where no one walks -- they prey on termites; and if I'm outside and the bugs leave me alone, I will leave them alone, but that's pretty much is the extent of my affection for bugs. So, I wasn't really expecting to like a bug book. But I did. And more importantly, so did my four-year-old son. He called this a "beautiful bug book". The description is perfect. We already have Cars Galore, and I really liked the writing in it. If possible, I like the writing in Bugs Galore even more. Peter Stein writes like he is reading out loud to a young child, which, of course, is the best way to write for young children. I don't know how he manages it, but his rhyming scheme and meter never feel forced or artificial. His text is so wonderfully picturesque that he just holds the door wide open for Bob Staake's illustrative wackiness to stomp right in. And it does.Again, although I am NOT a bug person, I like the artwork in Bugs Galore even better than Cars Galore. Every page in Bugs Galore crawls with "beautiful bugs". There is a wonderful freedom in the sprawl of the crawling bugs that could not exist with cars on the road. I should point out that I am writing this review without having the book in front of me because my son took the "beautiful bug book" to his room and he won't let me have it back.

Really fun book!
This is a favorite in our house for our 3-year old, bug-loving little boy. The illustrations are fun and there's so many different bugs to look at. I gave it four stars because there are 2 aspects of the book I don't care for.* One - is the text. It's short and cute, but reading it out loud it feels very simplistic.* Two - are the bugs themselves. Only a few look like real bugs, and the rest are made up. So the learning value is kind of low. (But I do like to make up funny names for the bugs when my son asks). The length of the book is ideal. It's not too long, but not too short, and it makes a good before-bed book. Overall it's fun and cute, and I would recommend it for kids under 4 who like bugs. I think older than 4 might find the text too simple.

One of our most favorite books!
I got and began reading this to my son when he was about 8 mo old. He is now 4 and we have a 1 yr old daughter and this is STILL one of our most favorite books!! The rhythm and rhyming is very catchy, the phrases are cute and funny, and the bug illustrations are very colorful and creative! Each page my son and I will spend extra time looking at all the different bugs. He loves the ones with hats! The board book is sturdy and has lasted well all this time.

Illustration and rhyming storyline keeps our LoveBug interested!
Originally bought this book because we call our little guy Bug. And my husband and I thought it’d be cute to have this book for story time. But little did we know we’d love this little book so much. Love the vibrant colors in the illustrations. Really kept our little guy interested in the story. Not only does the illustration keep him busy but something about a book that rhymes keeps him sitting still.

Great Book
This is one of my favorite books for both girls and boys. It's fun to read and the illustration is done well. We already had a copy but I bought this particular copy for a baby shower gift. If you want a book based on specific facts about bugs, this isn't for you but if you want a good, fun book, this is it.

Cute Pictures, Catchy Text
Big bugs, small bugs, creep bugs, crawl bugs. Sky bugs, land bugs, slime-your-hand bugs! Luckily My daughter isn’t afraid of this book like she is afraid of almost all bugs. There are so many cartoon bugs on all the pages that we can spend a long time pointing to all the different bugs. The text is fun and flows well through the pages making this book fun to read as well as to look at. There is so much to this book in its few short pages that I imagine it will remain a favorite in our family for quite some time. It made the top 12 list in our family: [...]

So happy to see this book!
We were so happy when Bugs Galore came out as we've been anxiously awaiting the next collaboration from Pete Stein and Bob Staake. As a parent, I know Bugs Galore and Cars Galore are the kinds of books that kids love, and want to read (or be read to) many many times! As a school district employee I'm happy to be able to purchase these stimulating books and donate them to our elementary schools and school based preschool program. I hear from school librarians that they are in constant demand, and usually on a hold list for the students. The preschoolers especially love the prose, and enjoy perusing the pictures, always finding something new they hadn't noticed before. A must for any home with young children!

Lovely illustrations, kids loved it and lots to talk about!
I picked up this book randomly at the school library and read it to a class of Kindergarten kids who all enjoyed it. The illustrations are very colourful and interesting and there is LOTS to talk about in this book -- vocabulary, word choice, science/nature, etc. I also love that it rhymes.

Love it!
We picked up this book for my 2 year old at the library and he pretty much had it still memorized a year later so we decided to buy for his 3rd birthday, next year he wants a Bugs Galore decorated birthday cake. It's a fun book to read and look at.
