Oprah's Favorite Things - 5 Inch German Steel Utility/Boning Knife W/Italian Olive Wood Forged Handle

It's easy to see why Oprah Winfrey likes this knife. It's my wife's favorite also. A great knife in every aspect that makes a knife great. Be well, be happy!

Great as a general purpose kitchen knife

Wow! You are getting quite a quality built knife for the price! This really is a beautiful full tang knife with an excellent handle and very nicely ground, super sharp blade. It has a great feel and weight to it. The handle is very well made and the wooden grips/"scales" were ground, sanded, and buffed together. Which gives a perfectly smooth and fitted handle without any overhang of the grips or raised rivets whatsoever. I run my fingernail over all the seams just trying my best to get it to catch somewhere and it was perfectly smooth. That is a level of attention to detail and quality that you hardly ever see on a knife at this price point. Especially when done as evenly and correctly as this knife is. The blade is correctly ground with an even edge and nice, perfectly even, light grind marks giving it a beautiful finish. Mine had a very slight groove where the blade blends into the bolster which I took care of with a needle file. That however was the only flaw I could find on this thing. It is very well balanced with the balance point being right at the first rivet. Which correctly causes the handle to pivot into the hand instead of being blade heavy and wanting to pivot away from and out of the hand. The Olive wood is also quite nice. Mine had fairly straight grain on one side, but some nice figure on the other. Plus the wood butter I put on it gave it a really nice matte finish and protects it. You can also see in some other people's pictures that some of them come with some awesome figure in the wood. Only time will tell how well the edge holds up, but I have a feeling that it will hold an edge and sharpen up just fine. If it doesn't I WILL update this review to say so. The two last things to point out is that it comes with a nice canvas sleeve to protect the blade when in a drawer. Then lastly I just want to say that the packaging that this thing comes in is excellent. These people put more attention to detail and effort into making the laser cut cardboard insert than a lot of other companies put into building their actual knife and that says a lot! Sure I got it for free, but I would have happily paid the $25 for this knife and I absolutely approve of and recommend it! I consider myself to be a no BS Vine Reviewer and I absolutely WILL call a product out if it isn't like it should be! This knife however is pretty awesome!

A nice knife for the price, although did get one that had a problem with the handle that we exchanged. Looks good for the price and the edge has held up pretty well. Nice for slicing vegetables and general cutting. Wood handles look and feel good in the hand.

I ordered the 5" Utility/Boning knife because, although I have a fairly large cutlery collection, there is a bit of a gap between my smaller paring knives and the 8" chef's knives/santoku. The size, shape/form factor, and slight flexibility make this an excellent utility knife. By that I mean that it is broadly useful in a large variety of situations. It may not necessarily be the best at any one particular job, but it can do a wide variety of them very well. To be completely honest, though, this knife will almost certainly see the most use from my wife. Her hands are a bit smaller than mine and she generally prefers to use smaller knives when possible. She also has some issues with early onset arthritis, so ergonomics are particularly important for her. She is able to hold and handle this knife very comfortably without any issues and tends to use it more like a mini-chef's knife.The aesthetics of the knife are obviously very appealing. Simply put, this knife is just plain gorgeous. The olive wood handle is warm, inviting, and feels fantastic in hand. The full tang construction ensures durability and balance. Everything is beautifully finished, smooth and polished, showcasing the quality of construction. It is genuinely hard to believe that this knife is currently less than $20! That is an absolute steal for something this well made that is also a pleasure to use. Highly recommended!

This is not an expensive knife so I didn’t expect it to be as sharp as my German or Japanese blades. They also require specific pitch to sharpen. I bought this for my husband for holiday bc he wanted something simple that cut sharp. The company and Amazon promote is as that. But after a short period of time-not putting it in dishwasher, not cutting on very hard glass/ceramic dishes, and hand washing and quickly drying w a towel. It is barely useful. Does not cut simplest of meat Total waste of money. Bc cost to keep getting them sharpened 3x a year is more than cost of item. Would like response from seller since this was a present and I’m embarrassed that it performs so poorly w rapid degradation despite following all rule /directions

This is a really nice knife. The handle is not only beautiful to look at but the feel of the wood is wonderful. Everything about it seems just the right size and shape. The blade is sharp and does its job well. It even has a pretty holder to keep it in good condition.One of the things about becoming an adult that they don't tell you is how often you develop favorites in the simple tools you use. So you end up with a favorite burner on your stove, even though there are three others. You have your favorite mug even though you have a billion more. This is one of those times for me.This knife is one of those that will be with me forever. Sure I have other knives and some of those are good and sharp and do a good job. This knife, however, has an Italian olive wood handle that feels like some sort of wooden silk in my hand. It has a handle that is just the right shape to hold with those great rivets that add character. Its blade is purposeful and elegant and trustworthy. It even has its own little home so I know it will not stab me when I am searching around in the drawer. I better make plans for this knife because not only is it going to be with me forever, I am going to have to will it to some favorite niece or nephew when I am gone.Great knife.
