Easy to use bait station
We have a problem with field mice getting into our RV so I set up three of these bait stations to deal with the problem. Before this I had 8 small stations that required attention every week to make sure the bait was n't eaten up. These bait stations hold 17 bait blocks and I only have to check them once a month. If it snows it is no problem as the fill is on the top. The old bait stations couldn't be checked until the snow melted. Since using the bait stands along with the Tomcat bait blocks, my mice issue is being managed.

Nice design with one exception and a tip on how to get around that.
I've made similar vole poison dispensers myself but only with two inlet tubes. I was going to make one like this but just the 5-way PVC joint cost almost $30 so making one myself would cost as much or more than just buying this one and that's what I did.I see one serious design flaw but it's easy to get around. That is, the access holes which line up so you can use the long screws to secure the unit to the ground will also allow water to enter or, worse, snow which could block access to the poison blocks or soak them in water and ruin them. You can, of course, cover them with tape but I avoided that problem altogether by inserting them with the holes offset by 45 degrees so there's no open holes. That will block the holes on the five-way fitting and prevent water, snow, etc., from entering. Of course, now you can't use the long screws to stablize the poison feeder but there's a better way to support the feeders anyway. I don't like using the long screws because that makes moving the "feeders" around inconvenient. What I did is the same thing I did with the feeders I already made and it works perfectly and makes them very easy and convenient to move. No drill is necessary. I merely push two of those plastic coated rods that are used to hold up chicken wire fences or to stake small vegetable plants into the ground, one on each side of the vertical feeding tube and and use a Zip Tie to hold them to the vertical pipe. You could also use a Velcro band for this. It works pefectly and holds the feeders so they can't move very easily. The poles I'm talking about are sold at any hardware store or big-box store in the gardening section. They're usually green and about 3 feet long. They have plastic pointed tips on them to make them easy to push into the ground. With most soils, especially when damp, they're easy to push into the ground and pull out to move the feeder around which is my easier and more convenent that driving long screws into the ground with a drill and the bit provided with this feeder. Doing these things makes it much faster to set the feeder up and move it and it also eliminates the problem of water or snow getting into the feeding tubes. Those holes are very problematic because rain or snow will definitely get in the tube near the poison blocks. That could make it impossible for rodents to even reach the blocks and it will destroy the poison blocks. If the folks who make this otherwise excellent feeder see this review, maybe they will consider an easier and better method of stabilizing the feeder such as the one I've suggested here which works perfectly for me. By doing so, they could eliminate the long screws although they should then include two posts. The posts are very cheap - less than $1, if I remember correctly. The screws clearly cost more than the posts. This also means that the the special bit is unnecessary. Lastly, the short screws included are completely unnecessary in any case. The PVC pipes are so tight that they have to be pounded into place. There's no way they are going to fall apart. In addition, the manufacturer can eliminate the drilling necessary to make the holes. Those changes would not only make the feeder far better, but it eliminates the need for unnecessary manufacturing steps and the inclusion of unnecessary parts (long ground screws, short screws and special bit). That could be passed onto the customer as a cost savings or increase profits for the manufacturer or a combination of both.I am a bit suprised that the maker designed these so that rain and water can get into the tubes next to the bait. That's a very serious and completely unnecessary design flaw. The ones that I made (2-tubes) stays put and no water or snow can get in them near the bait and moving them is fast and convenient. They work perfectly. Now this 4-way one works perfectly too and I had them in the ground in only about five minutes from the time I opened the package not counting loading up the poison blocks.

Great design and nicely constructed-and works
Been getting a lot of Vole damage in the winter the last few years. This product was recommended so gave it a try. Has a nice design, well constructed, easy to install, and so far this year NO VOLE DAMAGE. I recommend!

A bit misleading
I purchased this product to target rats and mice around my chicken coop, thinking that it would be in accessible to other animals as stated in the description. I used it according to directions and it is accessible to other animals. They pull it up out of the ground with the stakes. I was very very disappointed.

Good design!
I have no idea how much time I have spent thinking of effective ways to dispense rat bait within safety parameters dictated by state laws, etc. Equal to that time spent on that specific rat issue, is that of rat behavior. This product has so many of my concerns covered with this brilliant design. This product is effective. I found a dead rat shortly after installing this on an outer corner of my house. Apparently with limited human scented contact with the bait station, the rats like it. So far, the station has kept the bait dry despite this rainy moldy climate occurring currently. I have not tried to paint it (to match the color of the house) because of those prohibited conditions mentioned. I wonder also, if paint odor would inhibit rat acceptance/activity. I hate to have to try to place the usual bait stations low to the ground, behind objects, in dark places with little reward, wondering if my neighbor's small obese dogs, always hungry, should find them. This product makes it so very convenient to maintain. It would have been nice if the instructions had been included with the product when it arrived rather than having to refer back to the computer. I have a lousy s- l- o- w internet service. However, the product arrived quickly after ordering and in perfect condition. Good job!
