A Great Addition!
Mace is a common spice but not used as often as it once was, especially as “whole blades.” As many people know, mace is the fleshy covering of the nutmeg seed but it is predominantly sold in the form of a powder. At one time mace was considered a rare and precious spice and during the Middle Ages it was worth its weight in gold. I wanted to include an example of whole mace in a composition to be used as a reference for a drawing. Ceylon Prime Products offered a small quality of mace blades for a reasonable price. The blades arrived in very good condition (not shredded or broken) and though I would have preferred blades that were more scarlet than yellow-orange, the latter color is more than acceptable. After the drawing is completed, this product will be a great addition to my collection of cooking spices.

Great deal for trying a new spice
A friend of mine did a cookbook where she dedicated a whole section to recipes on mace and we were discussing her cookbook she told me that I really should give it a try rather than just cooking with nutmeg as it brings out a distinct level of spiciness and there is a difference between the two so when I saw this product come up on Amazon but you know what it is about time I had to give it a try. There is definitely a unique flavor difference between the two mace and nutmeg provides a little bit more sweetness than nutmeg. It isn’t a sweet like sugar, there is still some spice to it like you would find in a spice cookie. You can definitely dial up or dial it down depending on your preference according to the recipe. Having it whole I find is definitely my preference because then you can let it simmer in with the ingredients and then pull out the whole spice depending on what you are cooking especially with soups and stews it makes a wonderful addition you can also make a spiced cider that has a little bit more of a kick, especially if you have more tart juice.

Very Flavorful!
Mace is a spice widely used in Asian cooking. I have been using this in making spice mixes and also in baking. I love the flavor of mace in buns. It has a very subtle flavor that can be compared to a mix of cinnamon and black pepper and is used in sweet and savory dishes. I use a pinch of grounded mace in curries. This bag of mace is resealable so easy to store without losing the fresh flavor. The spice has a fresh aroma and can be used as whole or powdered form. I simply use pestle and mortar when I need ground spice and the fresh ground mace definitely adds so much flavor to food.
