Buy the XFD14 instead.
This drill only weighs 5 ounces (150 grams) less than the XFD14 if you remove the side handle from the XFD14. That tiny weight savings is not worth the torque penalty you get with this model, when the two drills cost the same amount.

Love Makita tools but not this one
Bought this drill to replace my older less powerful drill about 4 months ago. The drill performed well at first but about 2 months in it started to slip in first gear. Within a week I could no longer use speed one. I replaced the unit thinking I just got a dud but here we are about 5 months in on the new one and 1st gear is slipping again. I'm not using it constantly or anything, and the biggest bit I've used is a 4" hole saw, this drill should be able to handle more than it does without failure.
