Serious or even marginally serious McCartney fans will already have all these songs on various other albums and greatest hits packages. But it's convenient to have all of these songs on two CD's, especially if you're listening to the music in a car. It's impossible not to give such wonderful music 5 stars, but there are some serious omissions and problems with this collection.1. There are seven songs edited for brevity. A casual listener will never notice the changes, but to all of us who grew up in the 70's and memorized every downbeat and nuance, you will most definitely notice. It's very irritating to hear Junior's Farm butchered by more than two minutes and Venus and Mars cut to shreds. There are other glaring examples. As explained on the liner notes, these are the "single edits" released to DJ's of the era, but there's no excuse for these versions appearing on a quasi-offical collection, selected by Paul himself.The playlist contains all of Wings hits and even sneaks in some solo Paul work from the early 80's. Since they include Take it Away and Pipes of Peace, why do they neglect much superior songs from the same years, such as the beautiful Here Today, or Average Person? There are also some curious inclusions which should never have seen the light of the day on a greatest hits package: Bip Bop, Man We Was Lonely and Tomorrow should have been replaced with Sally G., Girls School, I'm Carrying and Nineteen Eighty Five.McCartney fans will always quibble about such things, but rest assured, you'll get your money's worth on this eclectic, fantastic collection. No one in the history of popular music could consistently write so many catchy tunes. If you're new to the solo years of McCartney, this is *the* disc to buy first.

Say whatever you will about Paul McCartney and Wings, but the fact is this - their songs still sound as good as today as they did when they were recorded back in the 1970's. The criticism of Wings is that they didn't come close to the Beatles. Well, who does? If Paul McCartney was never a member of the Beatles, I can almost guarantee Wings would not have received the backlash they did in the 1970's. Were Wings any more sappy than Bread or the Carpenters? I think not. Yet those bands never received the scathing reviews that Paul McCartney and Wings did when they created such light hits as "Silly Love Songs" and "With a Little Luck"Paul McCartney was not the most fantastic lyricist in the world. So he wrote "Eleanor Rigby", "For No One" and "Let It Be" ... he also has John Lennon looking over his shoulder. On his own, he proved he had a gift for crafting a perfect melody, but for writing relatively empty lyrics. Don't hold it against him. Not everyone can be a genius on all levels.I don't like everything on this disc - Another Day and My Love are a little TOO light and yes, he could be a little sappy at times, but the man was in love. We're all a little sappy when we're in love. Lennon wrote some sappy stuff too (anyone heard Oh Yoko?)But when McCartney was good, he was very good... Maybe I'm Amazed, Junk, Band on the Run, Live and Let Die, Let Me Roll It, Listen to What the Man Said - these songs were great even when making the unfair comparison with Paul's previous band (that one BEFORE Wings)If you have the desire to put on two discs of solidly crafted pop from the 1970's, this disc will fulfill your desire. The songs are pretty well selected (much better than the Wings Greatest or All the Best collections) and it sounds fantastic.

Good songs! Unfortunately, because Sir Paul continued his career by writing hit songs ("Live and Let Die", "Maybe I'm Amazed", etc.), many Beatlemaniacs have labeled him a sellout over the years, just for continuing after the Beatles broke up. The songs work! I gave this guy a second chance, about ten years ago, and am damn glad I did.

A talent like Paul McCartney deserves a well produced comprehensive compilation and I would say this is it. This CD is very good value. The selection of songs is fair and reasonable (apart from the omission of 'Arrow Through Me') and I think the sound quality is a little better than other Paul McCartney compilations such as 'All The Best'. I use a studio mastering grade DAC and ATC loudspeakers, which in my opinion provide accurate reproduction (i.e. as little as possible missing or added). This combination is unflattering of poor mastering, but this CD is satisfyingly well mastered, detailed and clear, without the excessive dynamic compression and raised average volume levels which tend to plague some contemporary productions. By mainstream contemporary standards, this CD is well produced, with mastering which at last seems to have brought out about as much of the clarity and detail of the original tapes as possible. Not all these songs were recorded with audiophiles in mind, that's for sure (e.g. 'My Love', which has always sounded muddy to me), but at least on this CD you can tell that effort was made to make all the songs sound as clear, detailed and listenable as possible. Good job, thank you for an enjoyable selection of great songs.

Quoi dire!... ☺ À part que cet album est EXCELLENT du début jusqu’à la fin.On y entend tous les succès de McCartney et The Wings couvrant les périodes de 1971 à 1980.Après la séparation des Beatles en 1970, McCartney lance deux albums en solo (McCartney sur lequel il est seul musicien et Ram unique album de sa discographie à être crédité Paul & Linda McCartney), puis forme le groupe Wings avec sa femme Linda et Denny Laine, un ancien membre des Moody Blues.La formation, à laquelle se grefferont au fil du temps plusieurs autres musiciens, enregistre 7 albums studio et 1 live bien accueillis par le public. Après avoir connu une notoriété mondiale, le groupe se dissout en 1981.Paul McCartney poursuit alors sa carrière en solo, ininterrompue depuis.Je suis très heureux de pouvoir ajouter cet album à ma collection.Noter que le son est excellent et il a été remasterisé.Cet album est sortir en 2001 sous étiquette EMI Music Canada.Bonne écoute !

Ja ja, für Fans sind ja die "Compilations" ("Best of", "Greatest" oder wie auch immer) immer so ne Sache: Erstens - einerseits ein Unding die (mal mehr - mal weniger) vom Künstler (bzw Produzenten) sorgfältig ausgewählte und ins Gedächtnis der Fans eingeprägte Reihenfolge der Songs eines Albums zu durchbrechen und einzelne Stücke "aus dem Zusammenhang" heraus zu reißen und zweitens - einerseits hat der Fan ja sowieso seine eigene Vorstellung, was zweifelsfrei auf keinen Fall auf einer wie auch immer Compilation fehlen dürfte, was wohl fast nie dem angebotenen Endprodukt vollständig entsprechen wird und andererseits holt sie sich der echte Fan dann doch - weil man eben alles haben muss...Was das Herausreißen betrifft, ist das bei der Nachbeatles Phase vielleicht nicht mehr ganz so dramatisch wie die perfekt abgestimmten Konzeptalben aus der Beatles Ära, trotzdem tuts manchmal weh (zum Beispiel bei "Mc Cartney I", bei "Ram", besonders bei "Wild Life", auch bei diversen Medleys bzw Übergängen). Aber so is das halt bei Compilations. Schmerzhafter is schon das Fehlen vieler persönlicher Favoriten. Bei den ersten vier Alben der Nachbeatles Ära überrascht mich das kaum, sind sie doch (trotz der Charterfolge - und trotz einiger unausgereifter Stücke) underrated - aber das ist meine sehr subjektive Sicht der Dinge. Umso positiv überraschender, dass Stücke wie "Junk" (mit anderem Text wärs ein Meisterwerk geworden), "Too Many People" (hier tut das Rausreißen besonders weh), "Heart Of The Country" und "Tomorrow" Eingang gefunden haben.Andere super Songs dieser first four Alben fehlen, aber wie gesagt, hatte ich eh nicht erwartet (weil meine sehr persönlichen Schätzchen). Die üblichen Verdächtigen dieser first four (plus Single) sind natürlich aufgenommen worden ("Maybe I'm Amazed", "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey", "Another Day" und "My Love").Wichtig auch ein paar Singles, die man so (zunächst) in die digitale Welt herüber retten konnte (z.B. Hi Hi Hi etc). Hier fehlt leider "Give Irland Back To The Irish" (ok, war kein Top 1 Hit, aber erlangte doch weltweit große Bekanntheit, aber hier vermute ich, dass es political correctness zum Opfer gefallen ist). Ab Band On The Run dann mehr oder weniger die üblichen Verdächtigen, aber mit ein paar schmerzhaften Fehlanzeigen wie "Magneto And Titanium Man" und "Letting Go" (zweimal ein "must"). Auch "Medicine Jar" (Mc Culloch R.I.P) hätte es verdient (ist ja ein erneutes "Wings-Greatest" - kein "Pure Mc Cartney" Album).Auch das Fehlen von "Beware My Love" und "Time To Hide" fällt auf. All diese "Must Have" Songs der klassischen Verdächtigen sind neben den original Alben allerdings in exzellenter Fassung auf dem Live Album "Wings Over America" drauf (m.E. das beste Livealbum ever...) - also nur deshalb ist das Fehlen verschmerzbar. Das gilt nicht für einige fehlende Schätzchen aus London Town und Back To The Egg, aber auch dies nicht überraschend, denn auch dies sind highly underrated Alben. Das wäre auch alles halb so schlimm, wenn man die regulären Alben noch bekommen könnte, aber sie werden - wie viele anderen Original Mc Cartney Alben nicht mehr hergestellt. Das finde ich ein absolutes Unding. Kann der erfolgreichste Komponist aller Zeiten nicht erreichen, dass seine Alben weiter komplett produziert werden?Dass man das eine unbedingt hätte mit aufnehmen sollen und das andere gerne hätte weglassen können, ist halt wie gesagt bei Fanrezensionen von Compilations immer so, aber zwei drei kritische Anmerkungen dann doch noch: "With A Little Luck" - die Single-Fassung hat schön speed, aber der Instrumental-Mittelteil fehlt - also wäre die Albumfassung besser gewesen. Dies erst Recht bei Venus And Mars /Rock Show - die Singelfassung taugt nix - hier erst Recht hätte es die Albumfassung sein müssen - naja und die sehr verunglückte "No More Lonely Nights" Playout Version ist sowas von daneben - was hätte man stattdessen für schöne Titel aufnehmen können... - zumal die "Normalfassung" ja auch Eingang gefunden hat (Letzter Titel erste CD). Wenn dies ein "Konzept-Konzept" sein sollte, isses gründlich in die Hose gegangen.Bleibt noch anzumerken, dass zum Produktionszeitpunkt man die Wingspan-Flügel auch zeitlich etwas weiter gespannt hat, als die Band tatsächlich existierte ( Mc Cartney I + II). Auch diese Wingspan wird nicht mehr produziert (wie wohl auch Wings Greatest nicht mehr). Also macht diese Rezension noch Sinn? Naja für Fans schon (die nun den Restbeständen zu hohen Preisen hinterherjagen). Eine entsprechende Rezension wird für Pure Mc Cartney kommen (mit großen Ähnlichkeiten mit dieser Rezension).Viele Supertophits und einige unbekannte Schätzchen enthalten - Höchstnote verdient.
