The Night Before Christmas in Crochet: The Complete Poem with Easy-to-Make Amigurumi Characters

The description of the pattern part of this book says "perfect for beginners." This is not accurate. I am an experienced crocheter and have done many different amigurumi. These patterns are challenging. The written instructions are almost nonexistent. The patterns are all charts. Critical information is lacking, especially the weight of yarn used. Crocheting amigurumi is not like crocheting a scarf where you can just adjust the hook size for the yarn weight to get the correct gauge. If you use the wrong yarn weight your amigurumi does not have the right shape. If you are buying this book for the story only, buy another version. If you are buying it for the patterns, you should be an experience amigurumi crocheter and be up for a challenge.

The story in the beginning of the book is just beautiful. I plan on making all the characters this year so come next Christmas my son can play with the characters that are in the story. It will be magical for him. I can't wait. The instructions are very basic and easy to follow. I doubt I will run into any issues, it's a great straight forward crochet project for beginners and experts alike.

The little animals in this book are so cute! I will be making some for the children in my life, but probably not use them in a snow scene, since I don't spend much time decorating for holidays at this busy time in my life.

These animals turn out just as cute as the photos. A few minor translation flubs, but not difficult to correct while you are working the pattern. I have done this author's patterns from his Japanese books and it is so great to see his work in an English format now.

Great Christmas gift to share with the little ones

I love it. The instructions are clear and the pictures are so cute. The crochet characters will really make the story come to life. I cannot wait to start crocheting these for my grandchildren for next Christmas.

I found this book whilst searching for Christmas themed crochet books for Kindle. Finding only 2 I purchased both and I have not been disappointed with my purchase. I almost didn't purchase this one due to the negative reviews, so pleased I did! I hope my review will help in some way as it is a great book.This book does have charts, the author takes care to explain the symbols used, I.e. X = DC(UK) SC(USA). With each chart is a table detailing the row number how many stitches per row and how many stitches have been increased or decreased during that row. I found it easier to understand the charts by seeing how many stitches are in row one, completing those, marking my last stitch, then reading the next row, and continuing through all rows. The charts are spiral as the technique used does not join with a slip stitch, but once the first i.e 6 stitches have been worked, the next stitch is worked into the first stitch at which point the simple spiral chart makes sense. charts also include colour guides indicating change a of colour. To help further there are very detailed photos explaining all techniques used and photos showing the placement of each component of every model. There is a clear detailed guide to help make a reindeer. At the beginning of each model are clear detailed instructions explaining how to make up each character.Definitely a springboard to sparking the imagination and getting the creative thoughts flowing!Just thought I had better say I do not know the author or publisher, just a very satisfied customer.

I have just received this book in the post and it's adorable. I love the pictures to accompany the well known festive poem. They are super cute and very well done. For me the book is just perfect as I am an experienced crocheted but I can understand others comments. The patterns for each character are not patterns but charts and diagrams. If you have done amigurumi before these are simple enough to understand and follow. But if you are new to crochet or new to amigurumi I would not recommend this book for the patterns.I would also say that both the Santa and his reindeer l

Every character from the famous poem recreated in little crochet figures. Beyond cute & fantastic if you want to create an unusual Christmas display. Included are comprehensive and clear step by step photo instructions as well as written ones and charts. All of these make it easy to make these characters if you are new to amigurumi or to check your technique if you're more experienced. Highly addictive! Equally highly recommended.

I am experienced at Amigurumi but cannot use this book. If you crochet following charts you may be ok, but if you are expecting a written pattern, honestly don’t bother!
