Excellent quality for the money
I have owned many guitars including expensive USA Fender strats and teles. This Grote guitar is one of the best guitars I have played. Really nicely made, very nice neck, love the design. It surprises me the quality of this compared to some big brands. I guess you pay for the name on a headstock but this really beats getting a more expensive brand guitar.Out of the box all I had to do was tune it up. The intonation is really good. The action is set low. The finish being matt is nice. It feels quality and good to pick up. To me picking this up feels right. The body is smaller than a Strat but the neck is full scale and I prefer the nice balance between body and neck.Decided to get another color while these are discounted.

Decent mod project.. which was its main purpose
For the money, it has potential. Neck feels good albeit a little fatter and flatter than I was expecting. Fret ends were done nicely but mine needs a severe fret polish as they feel very gritty. The poplar body surprised me. Mines fairly resonant. Poplar seems to be getting more common on budget guitars (Ernie Ball is using them on the Sterling line so it can’t be that bad). Pickups are ok. Not great but they all work. Hardware is exactly what I was expecting for a sub $150 dollar guitar. Finish is actually pretty great!! I like the black/green much better in person that in the pictures. Only reason this guitar got a 4 instead of the 5 was the fret polishing. Had it showed up with that done properly this is a 5 star budget guitar all day!!

Good product for the price.
Been playing guitar for 16 years and I bought this for something to mess with. I play Fenders and this plays very well in comparison. It is Super lightweight. Awesome design. Pick ups sound amazing. The price is too good to beat. Great beginner guitar and also great for someone with weak hands. Flamed maple neck! Very impressed!

Quality control issues and midget guitar
First of all, I have a Grote Jazz guitar I love, which led me to buy this. I was very disappointed when I unwrapped the guitar to find the nut crooked and mounted in a way I could not fix it without trying to remove it by force. The guitar is also too small for a normal adult in my opinion. I guess it wouldn't matter if you play standing up. I was very disappointed because everything else about the guitar was great-- as far as appearances go. The finish was fine, nice neck, but I didn't even bother trying to play it so I don't know how it sounds. I was upset at wasting my time. It was so small that I didn't eve want to exchange it. so I got a refund. I was disgusted at the whole process of reading reviews, watching videos, and then getting a lemon...

Really Great Guitar
This guitar was flawless . Nice setup out of the box . Nice matte finish , no gloss here!. I got the dark green one. Beautiful neck . no fret sprout . Medium ss frets and a fairly flat fretboard radius. Very comfortable and easy to bend strings and play (fairly lightweight). The pickups sound very good and i might not ever replace them. The nut is bone and cut well. What i might replace ? maybe locking tuners although the ones on it seem pretty smooth. Maybe stainless steel bridge saddles. Maybe some graph tech string trees. Thats about it. It also comes with a very nice gig bag . Nice job Grote !!! Just bought the tele version but wont get it until late sept. or oct for some reason . The strat style one took 2 days. PS i also like the abalone dots rather than black. Nice touch.

GROTE is GREAT
I bought this guitar because I needed a cheap guitar to as to my collection that had a Strat-style body. after looking at the squires and such I went with the GROTE because I had a Grote jazz guitar that was niceI have always liked Grote guitars because they give you a bang for your buck. this one is no differentI purchased the pewter color and it looks great. the fretboard is smooth and split coils ? for under 150.00 ?I love the headstock (I hate the headstock on squire strats). It comes with a decent gig bag and a Tremelo arm and cord.. its a great guitar and I plan on getting the Grote telecaster copy also its hard to beat Grote when it comes to low cost high high-quality guitars

Small body ruins the experience
Everything about this guitar was great except for the small body size. By this I mean the guitar is thin, like a Fender Affinity but the body is also shaped smaller than a typical Stratocaster type guitar. It's about an inch shorter and also narrower. This makes it feel strange to hold while playing seated and makes it feel like a kids guitar. If it were a standard size I surely would have kept it but the size was a deal breaker for me and I sent it back. The gig bag was very nice and much better than what you get with Indio guitars, for example. If you don't mind the small body size there really is nothing to complain about otherwise. Fret work was good, setup was playable out of the box. I really don't have anything negative to say about it aside from the size of the body.

Don’t expect much
Pros - stainless steel frets, nicely finished on the ends, nice neckCons-everything else, cheap electronics, cheap tuners, pickups are awful and unbalanced, body is extremely thin and light and not very resonant, it feels like a toy made of styrofoam, if you want to mod it, I doubt any standard size stuff will fitTo sum it up, it isn’t a guitar where quality exceeds price, it feels and plays like a cheap guitar.
