Locking casters ruin it
Whatever hotshot product designer at ikea made these infuriating locking casters deserves to lose their job. Never had a simple piece of furniture been so frustrating. I can either choose to stow my chair under the desk and have to wiggle and shimmy it back out when i want to sit since again the casters do not roll without weight on them. My only alternative is leaving the chair not pushed in, taking up a ton of space in my already small room. I now use the chair without the caster on my bare floor with some furniture pads instead of wheels, works a lot better and i no longer feel like my office chair is actively fighting against me.

At $40 this chair is a great value at IKEA!
Having read the reviews here I was very reluctant prior to making this purchase, despite its low price at IKEA (I paid just under $40!), so I went to IKEA to check it out first hand. Granted, I have only been using this chair for a short time, but I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised at its ease of assembly and general quality for the price! Yes, the back of the chair is a bit strange in that there is technically no cushion and if you're quite tall and/or not in the best of shape this chair might not be right for you, but having spent a considerable amount of time in it I can say that I find it to be quite comfortable and completely satisfactory! Truthfully I don't understand the complaint with regard to the bar on the back or the lack of cushioning on the seat. I am sure there are better chairs on the market, but I doubt there are many that can be found anywhere in this price range! I would highly recommend this for anyone looking for a solid chair on a budget.

The piston gave up quickly
Cushion does NOT do its job, you can feel the hard platform you sit on, the piston gave up in a year with light use...

BIG flaw/mistep in design
There's a lot to like about this chair. It's price ($40 at IKEA), the overall build quality (sturdy) and the comfort (soft). Unfortunately, there is a BIG flaw/mistep in it. There's a metal frame that goes along the back support. What does this mean to your back? You will be able to feel it pressing against it EVERY TIME for a simple reason - there's no sponge. It's empty. Just a single wide rubber band at the bottom area that makes leaning against it possible at all. Maybe for $40 you will find this sacrifice understandable, but for me a swivel chair is all about comfort since I'll use it for hours.

DO NOT BUY, far too weak.
The seat isn't very sturdy. It broke within three days of using when I leaned to the side. Other side broke the next day. Super uncomfortable now so I'm going to have to buy a new one even though this one is less than a month old. .

Do not buy- Gas Cylinder Leakage
It has been few months I got the chair and it goes down as soon as you sit on it for few seconds. It gradually goes to the lowest possible level. I have searched the net and it seems to be due to a leakage in the gas cylinder. One of my friends has the same issue with hers.

Gas cylinder make chair unusable.
This is an ok standard chair. Unfortunately there seem to be problems out there with the gas cylinder. As soon as you sit down, the chair will gradually lower itself until it's at the lowest setting.
