Where the wild things (with Force powers) are
Overall, especially at the Amazon price, this book is a solid buy. (If paying cover price elsewhere, I'd call it 4 stars). Full review follows...This book is an interesting beast* amongst the various career books released by FFG.*(Get it? Beast? Cause it has the animal companion stats? ... okay yeah, even if I used Force Influence I'd still fail the Charm check on that one.)Thematically, it follows one of the most logical styles of Force user to have escaped Order 66 and the aftermath, those who make peace with the middle of nowhere, hiding amidst life itself in the wild corners of the galaxy. 5 stars for that. The new specializations are diverse enough from the core books, while still staying true to the careers roots, to be useful. All that's 5 stars. Hermit is useful and Executioner is there for that one special snowflake in every group that just has to be a dark side user when they play or for that one villain you want fully flushed out by PC rules. The new Force power is like the child of Sense and Enhance, it uses the force to physically enhance vision. Low light, eagle like distance vision, see like a microscope, etc. It's not bad but...I would call this the one missed opportunity of the book, as the writer never even seems to have thought to have it enhance other senses. It can't be used as written to enhance hearing or smell and really this comes off as perhaps the poorest implementation of Force offered. Not bad just... all the other Force talent lines are superior in use and writing.I'd call this 3 of 5 stars. It's useful but only okay. Not bad, but below what I've come to expect from FFG's writers translation of the Force. The beasts are the best! My only complaint here, the size of some of them could use clarity as different sources, both legends and canon, would have them at different silhouette sizes and a default for the game being picked, for all that aren't 0, would have been nice.Still, this section is a blast to have access to and greatly enhances and eases letting players have beast companions. Sensical and pre-made stat blocks are all good to go for the GM and there's several critters to go with. No anoobas unfortunately but Albek's for when the animal bond needs to be with a reasonable sized creature, Manka Cats so you can help save an endangered species (... lol, admittedly by dragging it around the galaxy into dangerous situations...), and many, Many, MANY more. There's probably 15-20 creatures, of which easily a dozen or more are definite solid bond choices or combat choices if you want to challenge the group with an animal attack.Again, overall, a solid career book from FFG. 5 stars at twenty bucks or lower, 4 stars if you're paying 25 or more.

Has a good number of creatures in it and interesting new specializations too. The new force power isn't particularly strong or useful but very cool (and really that's what matters).

The options of animal companions is very helpful, in addition to the extensive role play ideas laid out in the back of the book. The equipment and new specs are a lot of fun, and my players sure enjoy what it has to offer. It would have been nice to see some more force imbued objects or artifacts but it doesn't take away from the rest of the offerings. Worth it
