Retro Remote Switch
Opening the box did feel a little like going back in time with the antennae's and base unit switches - for a second I thought I might of been sent a walk talkie.Setup was pretty straight forward though would of been nice to have a sealed bracket to keep wiring hidden.Using it to power a few things in the shed and it's working fine pretty easy really and will save me having to go back up if I forget to turn it all off. Battery life Im not so sure on as too early to tell.

Works fine despite of a couple of issues
The COLOROCK Wireless Remote Switch I received was badly assembled. The blades connecting the terminal strip to the circuit board had not been fully pushed through before being soldered so there was a large gap underneath one side of the terminal block. I was also concerned that the hinged terminal cover only shielded the top of the terminal screws but left the fronts exposed. However, once it was wired up to a 240 volt supply, it worked as described. It appears to be pre-programmed in 'Latched' mode i.e. the On button and Off button operate as expected. I tried all the 'learning' modes and had no problems. After holding down the learning button for about ten seconds to clear the memory, both the remote controls stop working and you have to reprogram it in one of the modes to get the remotes to pair again. You also have to repeat the process with the other remote. It might be helpful to mention that 'Momentary' mode and 'Toggle' mode might confuse a user since the 'Off' button is not used in these modes. In 'Momentary' mode one simply holds and releases the 'On' button and in 'Toggle' mode one simply presses the 'On' button to power on and press it again to turn it off.It should be noted that there is no earth connection on this device and the neutral terminal is common to both input and output circuits. It should be installed by a competent person and would normally be housed in an insulated box with the antenna's magnetic base stuck as high up as possible to increase the range. I will be fully testing the wireless range later this week and report back.I've deducted a star because of the assembly issue (although this may be a one-off) but the device seems to work fine and is easy enough to program to cover most situations.

Simple but functional unit with decent range
this remote switch is easy to install and the wireless remotes operate reliably from within our house out to where the switch is located in the outbuilding at the end of the garden.the remotes are simple with basic on and off buttons.I'm currently using it for lighting but plan to wire it up to control of some of my workshop equipment once I have things more organised.overall a very useful bit of kit albeit not the most stylish.

Failed a Portable Appliance Test
Unfortunately testing of this device fell at the first hurdle due to it failing a Portable Appliance Test (PAT).The outside of the antenna jack is connected directly to one of the incoming supply conductors (in this case neutral). If this unit is fed with a non-polarised plug (e.g. a Schuko plug), or in a location where the incoming line may have line and neutral reversed (e.g. rural Spain) then there's a 50/50 chance of that being a bare contact at mains voltage. The outside of that jack should not be connected to neutral. In order to comply with CE and UKCA regulations (and earn the right to use the markings printed on its lid) it should go to a separate earth terminal. Unfortunately due to the internal design it's not possible to cut any tracks to isolate the jack from the neutral connection and add the required earth wire.

Weatherproof, only with proper location against water and humidity
I love this simple easy to use remote control module. The remote transmitter switches are powered by a long lasting 9v battery (6LR61 or MN1604). The remote switch has two buttons, one for on and one for off. THis takes a lot of the guesswork out of operating the receiver, as you can always know which state it's in. In addition to the push button switches, there is an isolator slide switch on the side of each remote transmitter to keep the whole thing inactive in case of accidental button triggering. (photos)Now, the receiver. It's a small 4 wire device using 2 wires, live and neutral in, and 2 wires out, a switched live and neutral for your light. the receiver is small but you'll need a large waterproof box, or outside junction box with cable glands for external use.. NOTE: if you want this for a light switch replacement, you MUST ensure that there is a neutral wire available for the receiver. Most lighting circuits switch live circuits only, so CHECK and make sure that a neutral is available before planning where to fit.The switching of the receiver, can be set for momentary, toggle, latching, and delay modes, by the setup options. That's about it. A great little convenience device. The range is very impressive and with the mounting of the external ariel on a high position it will easily operate from a mile away, possibly further in clear line of sight. The setup is especially useful for remote out buildings, barns, shed, water pumps or other remote devices that already have a mains feed (220VAC), but need to be operated remotely.
