Complete Nelson Riddle Studio Sessions

This is a superb collection. As a standalone product this is a quality release with a sturdy box, four double CD gate folds with each CD contained within a further paper jacket. There is also a 40 page booklet on thick paper in full colour with archival pictures and informative essays. There are also reproductions of the original album covers on which these sessions were originally released. For the price, the record company has produced a very desirable product; not sure how long it will stay in print.The sound quality is favourable for the time of release. The earliest sides are from 1950 but are still warm and full- but clearly have that authentic 1950s sound in both arrangement and ambience. The period covers the time from when Nat became known as primarily a vocalist rather than a jazz pianist, right through his classic era until 1960. Despite this, there are some instrumental tracks featuring the jazz piano of Nat, although these are more nostalgic covers of earlier songs rather than the jazz trio arrangements from which he made his name. Just be aware that many of Nats 'hits' like When I Fall In Love, Stardust and Ramblin' Rose etc. are not here. They either fall out of the time period or were recorded with different arrangers (notably Gordon Jenkins). This is exactly as titled; every recording Nat made with arranger Nelson Riddle. It covers the complete albums- The Piano Style Of, St. Louis Blues, To Whom It May Concern and Wild Is Love plus singles, EPs and unreleased tracks. It is complete in that respect and contains many tracks that are hard to find as well as classic cuts like Unfogettable, Mona Lisa, Too Young and the later recording of The Christmas Song. In short a brilliant, well annotated and carefully presented release. Obviously we, as consumers, are benefiting from the recordings of this era being out of copyright but as the original Capitol standalone discs are long deleted, perhaps we should be grateful for those smaller independents who put out carefully presented collections like this. There are, after all many companies who put out inferior compilations to make a quick profit, so I can only highly recommend this quality release.

Opening this box set is a strong experience for anyone that collects or appreciates a fine edition. The 8 CD’s are housed in double digipack sets and also contained in preciously designed inner sleeves. There never has been, until now, a Nat King Cole Set organized under this same concept: his complete collaborations with Nelson Riddle. And it’s with Riddle that Cole’s music reached to its highest peak, crowning the popular music of the 21st Century with strikingly beautiful albums and singles. “Mona Lisa”, “Unforgettable” are from this era.The 216 songs are presented here chronologically in session order, and everything is carefully explained on a thick 40-page booklet packed with lovely photos and memorabilia. I’ve got most of the original albums, but this collection also contains rare tracks with Riddle I had never heard before. Therefore it totally makes sense to buy it if you are a serious collector.The discographical information is rigorous, and the Audio Quality is excellent. It’s obvious that there is a dedicated production team working for making this happen. This is indispensable for absolutely anyone that loves Nat King Cole. Highly Recommended.

What is not to love! One of the finest easy listening singers of all time in Nat King Cole backed by a stunning orchestra directed and arranged by the great Nelson Riddle. Most of these tracks are familiar but to have them all collected together in a single handsome package with really great sound at a competitive price makes this set a killer combination. If you like Nat King Cole you need it, if you don't know him it is the perfect introduction to his singing. I(f you have this and the similar Billy May package you really have all that you need.

I am a fan of Nat Cole so it was very easy to like the recordings. Quality was good throughout. The package arrived in good time. All disks and booklet were very well enclosed in the box.

I Cannot fault this box set at all. I have been a mega fan of Nat "King" Cole for many years, I have a lot of these tracks, but not all especially in order Wonderful and comes highly recommended.

I mean the songs Nat sings with the famous Nelson Riddle. It took some time to listen to all of the cd's but I enjoyed it very much.

A very good and concise compilation with lots of interesting sleeve notes.Highly recomended.

Pour une fois TOUT est parfait: présentation luxueuse (pochettes et coffret en carton épais), livret de 40 pages détaillé, son de très bonne qualité,... un petit bijou que vous ne pouvez pas laisser passer si vous appréciez ce Grand Artiste. Ceci devrait servir d'exemple à suivre pour les autres labels spécialisés en rééditions. Impossible de donner une évaluation inférieure à 5 étoiles. Un seul conseil: Ruez-vous dessus tant qu'il en reste...
