The Slo-Bowl is a natural, healthy and playful solution for dogs that gobble their kibble too quickly. Our nature-inspired designs promote natural eating habits by requiring dogs to forage for their feasts. Moreover, by prolonging feeding times, Slo-Bowls reduce the risks for bloat, regurgitation and canine obesity. Dogs quickly learn to "chase" their food through the maze of ridges and valleys, making dinnertime feel more like a hunt. And, because the Slo-Bowl "rewards" their play with bits of food, furry friends become more and more engaged as the meal goes on. Veterinarians agree that slower feeding is safer feeding. When it's time to dine, feed your dog with peace of mind.

excellent!
I started buying two for my 2 75lb dogs, now ordered 2 more. One for my 50lber, and one for my 9lber as he runs to the big dogs bowls after either thinking they are fun or noticing how much longer it takes them to eat.(Off topic - I wish amazon would allow me to write reviews from the app... my phone makes the form jump around when I try to scroll... so this comment belongs lower) I couldn5 make up my mind on wave or flower for my 4th unit so gave in to the one 7$ less, tho it was still a tough decision. The depth variances with some sliding of the waves is difficult in one sense and the greater slip sliding of food in the closer to level flower is good in another.the first thing I noticed when I pulled this model out of the box was 2 or 3 inclusions in the plastic thay irked me being overly picky. But I tried it anyway and glad I didnt wait for a replacement. It only affected the perfection of the look, not the smoothness of the finish.I sort of thought there would be a flat back to make this easier to wash in the dishwasher without pooling water if I didn't get the angle just right. It just has a thin rubber edge that keeps it from sliding around the floor. But tho I wont buy a thing that is hand wash anymore, I love this. The dogs take much longer, chew, and have fun/stimulated by it.I ordered one of this model of the waves, two of the flower, and one of the maze. I wanted one of each color but I thought the spiral might be too easy to push the food into the center to bunch it up to munch more pieces at once.Since I have to wait for the next two to arrive... this morning I tested the (in hand) flower and waves one with my 9lber. He went back and forth between. I decided for reaching in the middle but maintaining difficulty the flower was the best choice for my little guy. He can reach the center of the pink but the green is a little deeper so harder to reach. My big dogs get about 2cups of food each meal and the 2 cups fit.I definately think the flower and wave are the best two designs but I gor the maze for variety.

Bloat Fear? Not Here?
Taking about slowing their roll! I have 4 Great Danes and an Anatolian shepherd. I have some "bumped bowls" which did slow them down quite a bit in comparison to nothing and I liked that very much. But these bowls slow them down to the point that I have changed my schedule in the morning! Instead of the four minute slow down, think at least twice as long. Since I have so many dogs, I switch bowls for variation on the theme and seem to get into the puzzle.I actually had one of my Danes seem to get irritated and walk away for a second then came back to attempt the last two pieces of kibble her first time using the flower (granted she is not a border collie, she has strength in other areas). I have had to replace my others, simply because they others that finish quicker just walk over and stare down the others who are still working. With all that being said, if you are hiding pills in a heap of kibble, you are going to have to modify that and offer a treat or drop them in maybe a little wet food on the top like a cherry to a milkshake. This bowl only allows them to pick up one two or three pieces at a time. But for those who are like me and have either already spent thousands of dollars to correct GVD, get your dogs stomach tacked, have deep chested bloat challenged dogs and basically stare at them while they eat and drink - this is your salvation.

Not for short snouts
I really wanted to like this product. I have an aging Chocolate Lab that is on a restricted diet, due to cancer treatment induced weight gain, loss of activity and being fixed. He was always a "normal" eater, but after calorie intake was severely restricted, he began to gobble his food. Besides being a breed that is prone to bloat, weight gain and a healthy appetite, eating his food in 1-2 minutes flat only aggravated the situation. Harley is an English bred Lab, so he has a short snout, but a long tongue. This is not a good combination with this bowl's design. It caused more heavy breathing, snorting and snuffling as he tried to lap his food out of the bowl. He took longer to eat- yes- but that is because he couldn't get the food out of the grooves. the grooves are too deep for a stocky snout. Perhaps this design would be beneficial for kibble, but I feed my dog's wet, fresh food- like chicken, spinach and the like. Not canned wet food. this presented a problem beyond the design. I doubt if any of these bowls are designed for wet, cooked or fresh food. I also tried the Flower design, of which I am reviewing next. In the end, even if my dog were in pristine health, this in and out method of breathing the bowl puts the dogs thru will cause more gas issues than if I let him gobble the food. My dog has never vomited after gobbling, thank goodness, but if I continued using this bowl- I have no doubt he would. I am more than a dog owner, I train them and have for a long time. Not a good fit for my breed. Aggravating a dog isn't the answer to fast eaters. Until I find a bowl that does, I am better off with a suction cup separator from Petco.

My dog gives it a 1 paw up
I got this dish because my dog is food crazy. He'll eat his chow so fast that he'll occasionally get sick afterwards. Wanting to save myself from this unpleasantness, and provide some mental stimulation, I decided to try a slow bowl feeder.PRO's-Well constructed-Perfect size for my dog's meals (1 c. per feeding)-My dog doesn't mind the oddly shaped configuration-It grips well to the floor and doesn't spill over-Does slow down his eating - but not by as much as expected. Takes him 90 seconds (I've timed him) to clean the bowl. (Was hoping for 2-3 minutes or longer.)CON's-Will not slow down a ravenous eater by that much-Food (when pouring dog food into it) will easily spill out unless you're careful-You'll have to arrange the food yourself to get it to fit into all the grooves-Doesn't do anything for play or mental stimulation aspectOverall, it's OK. 3.5 stars out of 5. It hasn't changed anything about meal times or feeding, except it takes my dog 30 seconds longer to eat and I have to rake his kibble with my bare fingers into his food dish twice a day. It might be a better fit for your dog, but I neither my hound nor I are super fans.

A great alternative to a boring bowl of dinner
As a keen advocate of encouraging my dogs to 'earn' their food and not be allowed to eat so quickly that they practically inhale their meals, I decided to try this bowl. I have tried many different designs on a similar theme and both my small terrier and my large greyhound cross will use this feeder to eat their meals from. We have 'greens' feeders, 'buster' puzzle feeders and a whole range of 'Kongs' of varying shapes and sizes. The slo bowls are easy to use, just pour their dry food in the gaps and away they go. No mess, no fuss. A quick wipe/rinse is all they need to keep them clean. The rubber stoppers underneath are enough to stop the bowl moving too much even on a lino floor

Brilliant
Brilliant - offers a challenge! We have the full collection of these bowls and chose a different puzzle each meal time. Our Weimaraner really enjoys it and now finishes when our other dogs do - not ages before.
