Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack

Timeless
Like the vast majority of Americans, my first exposure to the Gundam franchise was Gundam Wing (1995) in the year 2000. G-Wing had imagination, geopolitics, and massive robots beating the crap out of each other. I was hooked.A year later, Bandai released Mobile Suit Gundam (1979) in America, the granddaddy of the entire Real Robot genre. It changed the landscape of not just mecha shows but anime in general, in it's native Japan. Suddenly, robots were piloted by real humans and could be destroyed. Invincible-looking metal warriors actually ran out ammo in the thick of battle. It was revolutionary. Here in the good ol' USA, the response was decidely more tepid. Released a year after the much more modern G-Wing, it struggled to find an audience here. The horrors of war just didn't gel with all the primary colors in American minds. It looked like it was for kids but the storyline was DARK. There are dead piles of civilians in the very first episode. Then 9/11 happened and all American media became squeamish about war stories. Mobile Suit Gundam was pulled. The death of Bandai Entertainment seemed to signal the end of Gundam distribution in the West. Then Sunrise signed a deal with RightStuf and now we are getting all the Gundams. Can I get an amen?Char's Counterattack details a story fourteen years after end of Mobile Suit Gundam. I won't giveaway plot details for fear of spoilers but I will say this movie is just as good now as it was when I first saw it in 2003.The Blu-ray is barebones (as anime tends to be) but I don't care and neither should you. If you've read this far, you are probably a Gundam fan. Just buy it.tl;drBlu-ray + Gundam = Buy*8/17: edit for grammar*12/18: edit for grammar

Good Movie. Terrible Product.
If you’ve found your way to the original MS Gundam, I recommend this movie, but might not recommend this purchase. The next paragraph focuses on the film itself - skip it to see my product review and learn why I’m returning it...This film incorporates everything I love about the Gundam franchise and executes each theme flawlessly. It stays true to the original story and main characters, wasting no time catching viewers up on the current relationship between Earthnoids and the space colonists. The story retains the same depth about the repercussions of war and the human psyche introduced in the original series. The action scenes are also much higher quality. Definitely a cornerstone of the Gundam UC timeline, but I warn casual viewers that the ending is somewhat abstract.I have the same complaints about this product as the MSG Blu-ray Collections 1 & 2. All of these products feel like they’re bootlegged. You’re basically just paying for the film itself and no special features. That’s fine, but the case the disc comes in is cheap and mine was damaged, which is why I’m returning it. This film’s content played fine, but fair warning to anyone buying one of the collections - it’s common that certain episodes are corrupted and won’t play (I’m currently in the process of returning my second purchase of MSG C2 because corrupt content prevents me from viewing the complete series). Honestly, for the prices they’re demanding, these products are a scam, it shame on Amazon for doing business with this distributor. If you want to watch the series to experience it for the first time, you might want to consider streaming options. Not sure when / if Bandai will ever produce formal physical copies of this series, but that’s who we should be looking to buy from.

An alright movie with 30 minutes worth of Char and Amuro.
You can basically watch this movie after Mobile Suit Gundam whenever you want. It doesnt matter if you watched Zeta or ZZ because they never reference it and completely change Char's character. This movie introduces several characters but never does anything with them. Along with that, we dont see much of Char or Amuro and instead see more of the annoying characters introduced.I honestly wish I never saw this movie. The Nu Gundam was tight though.

Bad characters. Zero plot. Keep away.
What a mistake. Never again. I purchased this particular blu ray thinking it would be awesome just like the other gundam blu rays i own and love. NOPE!!! The plot made ZERO sense, the pacing was all over the place, and to make matters worse it had two of the most insufferable, bratty, useless, and hamfisted children in the movie:Quess and Hathaway Noa!!!I came close to turning it off halfway through a number of times JUST BECAUSE OF THESE TWO IDIOTIC CHARACTERS!!!They absolutely suck the life out of this movie with every scene they're in!!!!And to think, there are many gundam fans out there who speak exceptionally high of this film, and even think it fully encapsulates everything that made gundam good! YEAH RIGHT!!!If you're a fairly articulate person with a great deal of self respect, then KEEP AWAY from this movie at all costs!!!! I'm sending this one back!!!

Mobile Suit Gundam's Longest Rivalry !
This is UC 0093,14 years after the Original series in 1979 [Mobile Suit Gundam-1979],6 years after the Gryps Conflict[UC 0087-Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam 1985] and 5 years After the First Neo-Zeon War[UC 0088 Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ-1986]so,its time to settle things once and for all between the two most well known pilots in the franchise, and it does not disappoint! I will not elaborate on the ending, but if you like mecha fights that come to a conclusive, but crazy ending, then this is the gundam or series for you to watch! Enjoy,i sure do!
