This mat is not only astatically pleasing, but super fun to use practicing calligraphy. I have another set that has the characters on it, that one takes several minutes to dry. Which if you write about 5 characters the first character is already almost dry. I put a lot of water on it to see how fast a big blotch would take to dry and it was about 12 minutes max. But that was a lot of water. The materials are exceptional. And for the price, you can't beat this product if your looking to practice at any time. It's also decent travel size so if your looking for something to save storage space and also be able to do this in a car or something it's not that bad. The firmness if you don't roll it out all the way and have it horizontally on your lap you could draw for a while. I'm really glad I purchased this product. It's a great tool for people learning other languages and the art of Calligraphy of any kind.

This is my second one I bought. The first one was stolen. I guess I wasn't the only one that liked it. It uses that magic paper that when you write on it with water the characters slowly disappear. It takes so many times to write a character the correct way that you aren't wasting paper. I also used a book from Amazon that showed how to make many more characters. This just shows you some basic ones.
