Marine units in Vietnam
I was curious about F-4 operations in the Vietnam war because one of my close friends was a pilot. Very good detail about Marine units and a few Navy units. The color plates inside this book are awesome! Another good Osprey book.

Good but limited
As a Marine Phantom II RIO who served in Vietnam and who had a chance to work in the Marine Historical Division, I was very interested in getting this book. Coverage of some squadrons is excellent (VMFA-542 in particular) while others (531, 115, 122) is perfunctory. This appears to be due to the sources the author used. Likewise, particular types of missions are a bit brief (Steel Tiger A-6 escort could be gone into in more detail, for example, as, after 542 left Vietnam, the Phantom escorts all came from Chu Lai while the Intruders continued to fly from Danang, requiring an air intercept in the dark under all-weather conditions; no Marine-escorted A-6 was lost in Laos). Nonetheless, I recommend this book to people interested in the history of these units and, of course, to any model makers as the pictures and color plates are very good.

Best Overview of Marine Corps Phantoms in RVN
Great book, highly recommended to all RVN vets, all Marines and all aviation buffs.I was there as a RIO in VMFA-314 from May 1968 to June 1969 and it's great to read about the other squadrons and other times. I'd expect fairly good accuracy, but the two places where my name is mentioned with Maj. Carl Black are not entirely accurate. There are a few other books about Marine Phantoms in Vietnam, but none as inclusive as this. And it's a great value from Amazon.Bob Schmitt

Great book
Great book my boyfriend loves it. He worked on these planes while serving in the marines when the planes were still in commission.

Fulltime circle on Vietnam Phantoms
Although the Flying Leathernecks used the Phantom as a CAS aircraft and not as a fighter, it makes for interesting reading and gives an insight into the ways the US Marines believe in how to exploit a heavy jet in an environment requiring the flexibilty and maneuverabilty of more nimble aircraft such as the A-4 Skyhawk. A nice addition to the series indeed.
