Bought to replace Kaw FC420V
Motor shaft and bolt pattern matched, but required new bolt for crankshaft and new mounting bolts. Does not come with electric starter. Oil filter hits battery mount and deck when in lowest setting. I notched the deck out and plan to cut a hole in the battery mount to clear the oil filter. There was not wiring information, but other reviewers gave explanation. I used a wire tap to connect to grey fuel solenoid wire to the existing key switch. I plan to connect the black wire to the interlock system and the red wire to the battery for charging.Overall the install was a bit more involved, but I know the motor was not a direct replacement for mine. The recommended motor did not have an oil filter. I have a few hours cutting 1.3 acres, and it performs great so far.

Great Replacement Engine
I bought this engine at a discounted price on Amazon as a replacement for the 13 hp blown Briggs and Stratton engine on my 28 year old Snapper Rear Engine Rider. Wanted a pull start only engine as to not bother with electric start issues. This engine is a great replacement and really runs well. I did have to remove the rear bumper bar due to the muffler facing the rear and the bar was in the way. Bolt holes lined right up. Easy install.

There is no wiring diagram.
I bought this to put on an old Snapper that I grabbed from the side of the road. With a bit of tweaking I was able to make it fit properly. My issue involved the wiring- the old mower had no wiring harness, the key switch was destroyed, etc. All I wanted to do was be able to start this motor so that I could use my mower. Briggs was no help.... they give you a web site that shows hundreds of wiring harness diagrams, but no one would tell me how to wire the carb solenoid so that it would allow the motor to run. After many hours of research and some trial and error I figured it all out.... The motor has two connections available- the plug from the carb solenoid that has a black and a gray wire, and a single red wire coming from the voltage regulator. I cut the plug off of the carb solenoid. The black wire is from the alternator and goes to a SPST switch that connects to ground in order to make the motor stop running. The gray wire connects to the red wire from the voltage regulator to provide the 12V that the solenoid needs to open. Once this was done, the motor started with no issue. Even pull-starting it only takes two pulls. Another thing not noted in documentation- on the throttle plate there is a small black "key" that you should take out. This allows the auto-choke to do its thing or you can connect a throttle cable at this point. I am not a professional. Some of this may seem obvious to others. I'm posting it here so that if anyone else can use the input they don't have to do the research that I went through.

Overall Completely Satisfied (so far)
I ordered the 17.5 HP B&S Intek engine to replace a Kohler 13 on my 1998 TORO 36" walk behind. The first engine I received had its black plastic shroud shattered in the front so I returned it that day. I received the second engine 5 days later. It showed up with fingerprints and dust on it but appeared to never be started. Installation was easy as all holes lined up. Since my previous engine was a pull start, I needed power to the fuel pump/carburetor (gray wire), and my mowers blade safety switch, so the mower would shutdown if blades were still engaged when emptying leaf bag. I cut the white connector off the end of the gray and black wires. I connected the gray wire and positive wire to the safety switch together, then to one end of a heat shrink connector. I connected the red wire from voltage regulator to the opposite end of the heat shrink connector. Then used heat gun to seal wires. In order to be able to shut off the motor I had to connect a wire to the black wire and run it up to the lawn mowers console. I then drilled a hole and installed a toggle switch. I then connected the black wire to one end of the toggle switch. I ran another new wire from the toggle switch back to one of the mounting bolts for the ground. Filled oil to proper level with 5-30 synthetic. Put fresh gasoline in. Fuel on. Motor started on third pull. Purred like a kitten! Consecutively since, it has started on the first or second pull. ( Note : this motor has much more compression than my 13 hp Kohler and is a little more difficult to pull} Hope this helps because B&S website isn't much help with their wiring diagrams. And yes the toggle switch works like a charm.

No starter provided with engine. Other than that great running engine with good power
Installed this in place of an 11hp Briggs on a 1983 john deere 111. Runs great, bought a starter off of Amazon also. Need to make sure it has a 14 tooth pinion gear to match to the flywheel. Hooked up fuel solenoid to a switch and fired up. Great engine with no issues. Way cheaper than buying a new rider

Read the item description carefully. Does not include electric starter
Be sure to read the item description carefully. Listed as providing both electrical and recoil (pull rope) start. This item does not come with a start. You will have to buy a separate start if you intent to use the electrical start capability. Clearly misrepresentation. The engine runs well, but too new to rate on durability. I have approximately 5 hours on the engine - using it on a wood splitter. installed directly in the mounting holes of my old 14.5 HP Briggs. Had to transfer my old gas tank and tank mounting bracket.

Great engine AFTER I added a starter
Great price. This engine replaced a 30 year old 12HP on a lawn tractor. I added the electric starter B&S part 593934 I wanted the recoil as a backup. If you pull start there's no battery required. Hook the red wire to the fuel solenoid and the black to ground to turn it off. It also has fuel and oil filter.
