Start here if you want to do HCG!
I've been vary degrees of overweight my whole life. I've done every diet from the Cabbage Soup Diet to Diet Center to Atkins with varying degrees of success. Doing HCG is the first time I've ever done a diet that has actually made me FEEL better when I'm on it and has had amazing results.I tried the original HCG protocol, "Pounds and Inches", about 9 months ago. I did one cycle and I lost about 20 lbs. I was so excited. Over the summer I did a lot of traveling and a LOT of eating and gained most of it back. Oops. So this fall I decided to give HCG another go, but I wanted to do some more research to see if there was anything out there that had been updated since the 1950s, when the original was developed. I found Dr. Lipman's "New 800 Calorie HCG Diet". At first I was a little dubious, because the original protocol is so strict on what you can and can't eat, and there was a lot more leeway with Dr. Lipman's updated version, and you also consumed about 1/3 more calories a day than the original.Let me tell you this updated program is great! The addition of modern low-carb and low-calorie foods that weren't available when the original diet protocol was written was wonderful. It made the food much less boring and made me feel much less deprived. It's pretty easy to stick to, especially once you get through the first week, which I admit can be a little rough as the HCG works it's way into your system and your body detoxes since you aren't putting all the crap into it you usually are. Headaches and some hunger are common in the first week, but these side effects are common at the beginning of almost any diet.People might say this diet is based on "pseudo-science" or is too hardcore or there's no proof that it works. I don't care what other people say. The proof is in the pudding! Since the beginning of September 2012 (it's now mid December 2012) I've lost 60lbs, stopped the edema in my right foot, and look and feel better than I have in half a decade. I just turned 30 and I feel better than I did for most of my 20s! Whether you have a lot to lose or a little to lose you can adjust this program's length to get the results you want. The only caution I would give is to do a bit more research on the "Phase 3" part of the diet than this book gives. Phase 3 takes place after you have lost all the weight you want to lose (or if you want to take a significant "break" from the diet and return to more normal eating habits for a while), and is an important part of stabilizing your metabolism and your new body weight set point. For whatever reason Dr. Lipman's program here is pretty vague on the guidelines, but there are lots of free on-line resources for better guidelines as well as the original "Pound and Inches" program which gives a bit more detail.

Just ok
This book is just ok. If you already are very familiar with HCG you can use it to transition into this alternate protocol, but it doesn't give much foundation. There are also a lot if grammatical and spelling errors that don't sit well with me, like spelling endocrinologist incorrectly on the cover. Some of the images in the book are just bad as well.I can't say it wasn't useful, but I would read Pounds and Inches by Dr Simeons first (free on the internet) before reading this. This one just feels incomplete.

800 vs 500~can't wait...
I just started my 3rd week of P2 in my 3rd round of the HhCG program. After losing over 70 lbs. & over 40 in. (and over 4 clothing sizes), I began struggling in my R3P2...so I was very eager to read this book on how to get up to 300 extra calories daily while taking my HhCG sublingual drops my remaining three weeks :-)I really liked the explanations on how & why the 500 VLCD should be changed. The "Do" and "Don't" lists were easy to understand. The updated approach to the 500 calorie hCG program is very welcome, especially to those of us doing multiple rounds. However, I did not like the "push" towards sugar-free products, using artificial sweeteners. Do not drink diet sodas! Try the Zevia sodas occasionally as s treat...if you are properly drinking your water & hot teas as your priority beverage choices. Be wise & do the research. Products labeled "sugar-free" will have theseunhealthy artificial sweeteners most generally. Don't be fooled. It is always best to use unsweetened foods and sweeten with Stevia. There are many delicious flavors. The hCG program will detoxify your body from years of bad food choices...don't ruin that by eating "sugar-free" products & believing they are good for you. Read the labels! Look for labels with ingredients you can pronounce ... and five ingredients or less is best.I also disagree that nuts are on the "snacks to be avoided" list. RAW nuts are healthy & have great nutritional benefits once you have completed the six-week hCG phase. Eating them responsibly in a 1-oz. portion (typically 1/4 cup) and raw is best. Be wise about too many fruits also. Fruits should be a "sweet treat" ... not "eat as much as you like" option. Berries are the lowest in sugar and should be a daily choice.

This is a great update to the original 500 cal limited diet
He is right that since the 1950s and the introduction of the original diet, there are many new products on the market that can work and keep you within the limits of calorie and carbs. Many new sugar free products, low carb or no carb, etc. The concept is still the same to eat the right combinations, calories, and take the HCG.

Love this protocol
I do love Dr. Lipman's protocol. I found that the download short on information. I would have liked a bit more. I found myself with a few unanswered questions so had to guess or try to find my answers by searching the internet and then guessing. I wish I had paid the money for a regular book (if one was available) instead of the ebook. Probably would have had more information. I have done the 500 protocol so I did not have issues that way. I will not go back to the 500. This was way easier - no stress- and easier to balance.

A must read AFTER you read Dr. Simeon's book.
An ABSOLUTE must read, especially if you are stuck on following the original plan. I already knew a lot of this by trial and error when I was following Dr. Simeon's plan and still lost 72pds. I've continued doing the plan on and off and follow the 800 Calorie and still I continued to lose weight. This will change your whole outlook on the plan (if you've always and only followed the original plan).

Very informative
Being a 500 calorie hcg dieter, i was intrigued by more options and new breakthroughs since Dr. Simions plan was published back in the 50s. I am going to experimwnt with Dr. Lipmans changes and see how it works. I lobe that this book gives food choices and pictures of approbed products to use, most of which i eat in regular life phase!!!

800 Calorie HCG Diet by Richard L. Lipman M.D.
I have been on Dr Simeons HCG diet 4 times and enjoyed the plan. However the variety was very restricted and caused me issues. I am happy to try the 800 Calorie HCG diet by Dr Lipman.

was hoping for better info
Bought this book after reading reviews of HCG'ers. Wanted to learn more about adding extra calories to protocol. I think it adds too much junk food,a lot of what he states is followed by, " it may or may not" ?? Says eat more unless you don't lose. Sorry felt it was not worth my 10 bucks. Probably do better following blogs or vlogs.

Great info
Good information but American suggestion of goods to use not as helpful. Recipes would help and more Australian suggestions as well.

interesting read
Put a whole new perspective on the HCG protocol. I will try a few things out of this book and see how it goes. Thanks for updating the protocol to the 21st century.
