Stylish dimmer switch
Replaced my old 12 volt halogen spotlights with dimmable LED bulbs and a dimmable transformer, so needed a dimming light switch. This Varilight unit met the requirement and is working well. It feels solidly made, looks good and was easy to install. It can be adjusted for different modes, but I haven't needed to experiment with that.

Dims well once warmed up...
Updated review: my initial review rated this item as 1 star as it did not appear to dim the 5 x 6W dimmable Magaman golf ball bulbs I'd bought it to work alongside. However, I've now found that after the lights have been on for a while the dimmer works well - but still doesn't seem to for the first little while after being turned on. Megaman do not recommend this dimmer for their golf ball LEDs, but it is on their recommended list for their GU10 dimmables.Build quality seems good, and given that the dimming function does now seem to cope with the Megaman bulbs I have (albeit with a 'warm-up' period) I've upgraded to 4 star - if dimming worked immediately would be 5 star.

Ok
Product was ok feels a bit cheap and nasty. Wouldn't buy again or recommend. Shame as its priced higher than competitors i expected a premium product. I will replace this item next time I'm in a shop that sells quality.

Replacement as old one was flikering on my bedroom LED bulb
Fitted it , light doesnt fliker any more but there is not much variation when you dim it its more or less 2 brightness settings .Need to try some other bulb options will probably work then just be warned you may need to do this for entirely good operation

Wide dimming range, but don't like the start delay or cost
After using this for about 9 months, it has become increasingly erratic in its behaviour and could no longer be used for dimming to a low level, without a lot of flicker. So I have now reduced this to 2 stars and replaced the switch with the much less expensive Varilight HV3 leading edge dimmer. This works just as well, if not better, with the six LED dimmable candle bulbs (Philips E14 Small Edison Screw 6 Watt LED Dimmable Candle, Warm White) in the brass and crystal chandelier. Also the HV3 doesn't have that annoying delay when you turn it on and also gives a more uniform rate of dimming as the knob is turned.Unless you absolutely need a trailing edge dimmer, I would suggest you consider a normal leading edge dimmer switch.----------------------------------------------I have found most dimmable LED bulbs now work just as well with the less expensive leading edge Varilight HV3.I really don't like the start delay with this switch, which is not necessary with LED bulbs, but it seems can't be deactivated. The response of this dimmer is also very non-linear, with very little happening in the first half turn, and then the dimmer is very sensitive. The one advantage this has over the HV3 is that it can dim to a very low level and does not have to be turned up after switch off to restart the light. This seems to be the one dimmer that can work with dimmable CFL bulbs, but I don't see any point in using those and don't use them.I have also long since stopped using incandescent filament bulbs, so this dimmer provides no benefit for me with those. For what it costs, I don't see any particular benefit from this switch over the HV3, unless you particularly want the wide dimming range and good restart when dimmed.I don't think it is worth the extra cost and will be replacing my one with its HV3 equivalent.
