Positive Message
This is a great book with a positive message about perseverance. I really enjoyed that the author used more than one example of what perseverance looks like and that not everyone will be an absolute expert right away, or even after a year. We all go through struggles in various stages of our lives and this is a good reminder for kids as well as the parent who might be reading to their child to have a positive mind-set. The art is very well done and enhances the story nicely. Well done and I recommend!

Excellent children’s book on perseverance!
This is the seventh story about little Nick in the “World of Kids’ Emotions” series by author Elizabeth Cole.I have read all the books in this series and have shared them with my young grandson over the years. Emotions can be difficult for boys and girls too!I like how in this story Nick is trying rollerskating! He’s not doing very well and gets discouraged. Fortunately, his father offers some encouragement to persevere and keep at it!His mother tried baking cakes. At first she did not do a good job, but later mastered the skill of baking cakes. Other examples are used throughout the book to show that trying to do your best and having a goal are great ways to approach persevering!“Perseverance makes me stronger.” I love the positive messages that are in this book. Positive self talk and encouraging oneself are helpful tools. “No matter the outcome, at least I did try!” ”My dreams will come true because I believe in myself.”There are some positive affirmations at the end of the book. And also a free coloring page that can be downloaded with a scan code. The illustrations are very nice to look at and colorful. The artist did a lovely job. The illustrations go along with the storyline nicely. The writing in this book has a pleasant flow with lots of rhyming words. “Perseverance means not quitting right away, but keep trying more and more, day after day.”

Failure is one step closer to success
This book is the latest in the World of Kids' Emotions series, which hits the mark for the target ages 3-8. When main character Nick has trouble roller skating, his dad takes him aside and lovingly explains the importance of perseverance by giving examples of people Nick knows and respects, including his mom, his friend, and Nick himself! The message in the rhyming text is direct, strong and encouraging. Nick gains confidence and uses affirmations to motivate himself to keep trying. "Perseverance makes me stronger; it lives inside me," he declares at the end. The last page offers coping skills for "When Things Get Hard," with a QR code to a coloring page. The book is a modern way to say, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again," and written in a relatable way. Adults reading with children could ask for examples from their own lives and tell about their own failures and successes. I like that the author doesn't shy away from acknowledging failure and its sense of disappointment and pain, and makes failure one of the steps to success. This book gives adults a gateway into talking about this emotional issue in a positive way. The illustrations enhance the story with scenes and expressions of trying, failing, and succeeding. The illustrator is not credited in the ebook I reviewed. As a poet, I did not like the use of near-rhymes and erratic meter, but these don't hinder the reading of the story.
