however there are other options out there that I would recommend for use as a 24/7 device for mallet finger
Not for everyday use, but it worked well in situations (lifting weights, sports) where I wanted extra durability and didn't care about wrapping up with a lot of tape. Background: I injured my ring finger, and for every day use I would use the more minimalistic Oval-8 splint. The Open Air STAX splint I used when working out, lifting weights, and golfing, as it provided more security and protection of the entire finger. This splint was narrow at the tip of the splint which didn't allow my finger to fit snuggly all the way into it. It also requires tape to secure it, and that tape has to be changed out quite often and gets wet when washing your hands. The plastic is rather thick compared to other splints, so it made it difficult to type on the computer with it.Overall - this splint does the job for certain situations, however there are other options out there that I would recommend for use as a 24/7 device for mallet finger.

Sizing issues
My wife hurt her ring finger while riding her horse, resulting in a mallet finger. In order to get a Stax splint that fit I had to order a series of them, and the best fitting one really doesn't fit all that well. So I'm $60 down for a single splint that works marginally better than tongue depressors cut and stacked. I'm also not sure if the Stax is adequately lifting the finger tip for this application. On the plus side, they are easy to clean and protrude less than homemade splints.Would I buy them again? Probably not.

Unless the tip of you finger is shaped like a pencil....
I am an Occupational Therapist and recently sustained a mallet finger injury. I ordered one of these as a substitute when showering. The issue with the Stacy splint is that the tip is pointy and not rounded like a finger tip. So you either can't fully apply it to the tip as directed or you have to jam your finger into the tip which is contraindicated. It is an easy fix, and I am not sure why they do not change this. Stac splints have been around for years.

Not as good as I expected.
Not as good as I expected. There is only one advantage over using tape is that it is reusable. There is no real advantage over cheaper drug store products.

You Could Do Better.
Does the job, but expect discomfort. Oval-8 splints are much better. I used these briefly to treat mallet fingers sustained during a basketball game.

Three Stars
I prefer the oval 8 as it is smaller and works similar.

Came fast, but wrong size. Hard to figure out what size to get. Too small for my pinky.
