What is your Vice? There is a reason for the price.
Well, I am a machinist so I may be a bit hard here.So this happened... I was Just doing some research for something completely different. Then I came across this lil' gem. Is it worthy of the $8.40 USD? Probably not. It has 5.0 out of 5 stars by one whole reviewer so why not. On recieving said vise I quickly started to mentally dissect it. The paint is akin to some cheap enamel used on old western block firearms. Mine arrived all chipped up.The second thing I noticed was the lack of hold down force of the sliding jaw. The culprit.. A washer. A bent washer at that. Not even centered properly but by the looks of the screw they didn't want it to come loose. They used a impact driver on the thing. Wow! The fix you query? A piece of steel to ride in the slot and cap the rails. They must have sent me the same one in the photo because the metal flashing in the mounting holes was present. I guess they want the end user to "adapt" this to their table or something. Not the best quality control. As for parallelism of the fixed jaw to the base; that is yet to be determined. I doubt it will be squared to the rails. I may add some slabs of aluminum to the jaws and mill them parallel. As for the knob... not a winner. I did try to pull it off but it is pressed on there pretty good. Was it worthy of my hard earned A-points? Probably not. But it was basically free.

Cheap
It is definitely very cheaply made. Will work for light duty stuff but wouldn't waste time on it for any real projects.

good vice
wish the "teeth" were a little taller to hold bigger items, but a nice vice for the price.
