You will need a cell phone
I have owned the Sola version of the Heybike for about 1 month and have put 80 plus miles on it in that time. Here are a few observations:1. You will need a cellphone. Some of the features of the bike are accessed only by a cellphone so install the app before you ride the bike.2.For an e-bike the Heybike is relatively light, 50-52 lbs. You old time bicyclists may remember when 30 lbs was considered heavy.3. For all that, in ‘pedal assist mode’ 1, the lowest setting, the bike pretty much pedals itself on level ground at speeds up to 20 mph. It essentially becomes weightless.4. On flat ground ground and modest hills you WILL use the Shimano Index shifting feature. The shifter is Shimano’s usual very high quality, quick, sensitive and accurate. I was skeptical but you really don’t need more than 8 gearing settings. For more challenging hills you will need the “granny gear” (1st gear) and assist modes of 3-5. With this combination, and some pedaling effort on your part, you should be able to climb pretty much any hill.5. The bike is a bit small if you’re over 6 ft or so. I am 6’1” and the bike is at the very lower limit of my comfort zone. It really is for off-roading, city riding, etc. Short geometry, stiff responsiveness and fat tires definitely keep it from the “road bike” category, you won’t stretch out and crank out the miles like a “touring” machine.6. Pay attention to the information display. Particularly if you see a flashing “dish antenna” symbol. When you see this it means the bike thinks it’s being stolen and will turn itself off! Pedaling 50+ pounds back home is a b***h. The bike has a GPS chip in it and turns itself off when it has moved about 100 yds with the “position lock” turned on. Removing the battery will reset everything.7. I have yet to use the “throttle “ setting, feeling that a bike should move only when being pedaled.8. I am 77 yrs old and have been riding a bike for 65 of those years.

Nice bike...
Really like the bike. The instructions not so much, but you'll be able to figure it out. Front wheel washers and clips go on differently than instructed. Takes about an hour to assemble.

My BIG purchase of the year and it was worth it!
It was so hard to make the decision to spend this amount of money on an ebike, but this was my one big purchase that I allowed myself this year and I just needed to share my experience!I'm not an avid cyclist but I do live just a couple of miles from the beach. Between me and the beach is a large hill that is hard to go up on a regular bike. Thinking about it, I usually talk myself out of riding my bike to the beach and ride along the ocean. I decided it was time to change that and made my decision. The Heybike Sola Electric Bike has the classic aesthetics of a single-gear beach cruiser with its wide seat and curved crossbar. The brown seat and handles nicely highlight the matte black paint job of the bike. Overall, this is a sleek looking bike.Installation was a little tricky because all of the electronics are already connected to the handlebars so it took a bit of manipulation to get all of the wires organized and the handlebars installed, but by following the clear instructions, I was able to assemble it within 1 hour.So as a bike, before turning on the electronics, it has seven gears with a nice gear shift system. It also has disc brakes which took a bit of adjustment so as not to rub against the brake pads while riding, but once adjusted, the bike was quite and the ride was smooth.Turn on the electronics and the bike transforms into a beast. The electric hub motor is designed to assist your peddling so your existing skills carry over easily. You're not manipulating a throttle to go faster but you're actually peddling faster in order to speed up and using the brakes to slow down. Unfortunately, I haven't found that this bike has regen braking.Anyway, this bike is such a classic right out of the box and the riding experience is pretty great. I'm able to get up that hill between my house and the beach much more easily now and I will be spending more time riding along the ocean. This is a great bike!

Great bike with excellent customer service support
The Sola bike came well-packaged and was fairly easy to put together. Essentially, you will install the handlebars, front wheel, pedals, and the seat. It took about 45 minutes. There is a link to a YouTube video that shows how to install/assemble each part. The bike feels sturdy and well-built. Most importantly, the bike rides very smooth. The torque electric system provides pedal assist based on how hard you pedal and it feels very natural and seamless. There are 7 gears and 5 levels of assist, so you can meticulously calibrate the amount of pedal assist you want. This is an awesome feature because you can get a good workout by easily lowering the assist or increasing it when you've run out of steam and need to climb a hill!Of course, the bike also comes with a throttle mode, which doesn't require any pedaling at all. The battery is easy to remove and charge. You can also charge the battery while it's on the bike. The range for a full charge is around 40 miles, but I've never pushed it to the limit.I also want to comment on the customer service I have experienced with the Hey Bike Team. It's outstanding. My customer support rep has quickly and thoroughly answered any and every question I had about the bike. Also, my bike didn't come with a quick release rod for the front wheel, and they quickly gave me credit for that part so that I could purchase it on Amazon. They even gave me the part number and sent a link to make it super-easy. Hey Bike supports their customers.

A very easy bike to ride and has nice rage to travel per charge.
We just purchased the Sola Electric Bike Adults. We are senior citizens and the bike is easy to handle being a lighter frame. We also like “old style” of the frame, and in fact we’ve only had the bike a week and we’ve had many complaints on the color. It’s sturdy and so far dependable. The best news is that the Haybike company has been very easy to deal with and answered all our questions (this being our first e bike) within a 24 hour period. Five Stars for this purchase.
