It starts 45 minutes in
I like to read the reviews before I watch - just to get other people's take on it, because they are almost always really honest opinions. One said that the first 45 minutes were absolute rubbish and they were- complete drivel. Had I not read that review I wouldn't have continued to watch it...I started to pay more attention then after 3/4 of an hour and it wasn't half bad after that. There was an obvious similarity to the wasp woman - which is a fantastic film of it's type (honestly recommend it) - the victim of the insect bite even wears a 'bee' striped top during the first half. Right so the second half of the film...the special effects were excellent - just enough gore and clever hideous make up. Elma Begovic gave a superb performance as the slowly mutating young woman, Casey - she showed limited talent in the first half then BANG gave an oscar winning performance as she changed from human to egg-bearing mutant - truly awsome, I loved every minute of it. I think the very last scene was a bit lame and unnecessary, but overall I really enjoyed it. Worth 3.5 but certainly not 4 stars.

The Triumph of Yuck
Is this the Age of Body Horror? Anyway my favorites are "Raw", for subtlety and resonance, and "Bite" for in-your-face manic drive. Here's the deal: Casey is an undecided twenty-something who's unsure she wants to marry yuppy, mother-dominated boyfriend, so to gain breathing-space she goes on a tropical holiday with two hard-as-nails girlfriends, where a strange bug bites her, and her life starts going downhill... as infection spreads she gradually turns into Bug Mother, death to anyone venturing into her apartment. Okay, enough story. What makes the film so good includes the intense portrayal of Casey going through her phases from insecure woman to Queen of Vengeance, and especially the bitter, ice-cold (future) mother-in-law... I was ashamed at the pleasure I felt at her gory demise. But above all, there's Casey's gradually metamorphosing apartment as the oversized salmon eggs in goop that she secretes, and webs of muck hanging from the ceiling (don't ask how they got there) overtake the place, and (with Casey's help) digest disgusted visitors. The only unsolved problem was finding appropriate dialog: "My god, what's going on here?" and "doctors can fix these things" don't quite grasp the scope of the problem. For a hellish descent into smothering orange mucus where corpses slip and slide around, should you ever have pined for such a thing, you can't beat "Bite".

Slow and boring
also it says "intent on finding human flesh to feed on" thats total bollox she doesnt eat one person and doesnt leave her apartment AT ALL.

Body Horror.
Young people on vacation and one of them get bit by something unknown. Metamorphosis ensues and disgusting scenes are to be expected. A well executed movie.

Worth a look
Bite is a cross between David Cronenberg's The Fly and Contracted Phase 1, but unfortunately not as good as either. The effects are quite good, but it is nowhere near as gross or disturbing as the critic blurbs on the DVD would lead you to believe and I think that is part of the problem. The film has a lot of hype and creates expectations which is doesn't deliver. The directing, set (Kasey's flat) and acting (apart from the wooden male lead) are all good, but Bite lacks real impact as a horror movie.Overall, Bite is a film I would recommend watching once, but not one which will become a classic or warrants repeated viewing.

Continuity Errors
Couldn't get past the continuity errors, particularly the protagonist moving towards the door to answer an insistent knock: one minute she was in a black vest, then a black bra, then a black vest and, finally the black bra again. But, hey, she got to the door - but that was a big distraction from the impending murder of that annoying soon-to-be mother-in-law! Ha ha!
