Thirteen is a 2003 American teen drama set in LA film and directed by Catherine Hardwicke, who helped write the script with Nikki Reed (Twilight franchise), upon whose diary from ages 12 to 13, it is allegedly based. Mostly filmed using hand held cameras it gives a quirky urgency to it all. This is a bleak look at a family in crisis and even if only a tenth is actual fact -it’s still dire watching as a bright young girl is swallowed up by the lunacy surrounding her.The single disc opens to a screen offering play, scene selection and extras (making of, trailer, commentary on/off, deleted scenes). Thirteen generated a lot of controversy for its depiction of youth drug use (including inhalants, marijuana, LSD, and alcohol), underage sexual behaviour, and self-harm. With strong sexual themes (although little nudity), anti-social behaviour and language it’s definitely not family viewing and probably not for grandma either. A disturbing film on many levels it deserves a watch and is never dull.After filming, real life abuse from parents forced Reed out of school and into home schooling and placed the film into limbo hell resulting in a long delay before widespread release -or cynics might cry clever marketing plot. Brutal, engrossing, controversial and most of all, thought provoking it deserves a *****.

it’s so good, the quality is great and the film itself is amazing. if you haven’t watched it, the film is about a teenage girl tracy freeland, who befriends the most popular girl in school, evie zamora. evie introduces her to the world of sex, drugs and alcohol. i won’t tell you anymore as it’ll ruin the whole film.overall it’s AMAZING, although the film shouldn’t be rated as an 18, more like a 15, seeing as its more appropriate and understanding for 15+ age groups.it’s been my favourite film for years and each time i watch it, it gets me everytime.a personal favourite, coming from someone who has watched films like the virgin suicides, girl interrupted, and films in that sort of genre.100% recommend it, so good for the price too.

Well what can i say, i like these unexpected gems i didn't have any idea about the film or what it was going to be like but i have to say what a film very powerful, hardhitting, true to life, hard to watch, extremely well acted by all the cast, it is a perfect example of the paths that some teenagers choose to go down and what an impact the upbringing can have for some teenagers, a lot goes on here thats very wrong such as drug abuse, self harming, underage drinking a lot of very common things that go on in the world today that are wrong, i have to say again about the acting it was just so convincing and was very suprised at how well they did doing this film. If you havent seen it i recommend this i think it one you have to watch.

Thirteen is about {Tracy} a normal,respectful and moral thirteen year old girl who has done really well at school,until She meets {Nikki} an unrespectful,filthy minded,twisted girl and with no morals at all,Tracy is fooled by her charming and so called cool little ways which will change her happy go lucky little life forever,Tracy is lured into crimes such as underage sex with lots of older boys,drugs and stealing handbags. I know this film dont sound like much but trust me it bloody well is an uncomftable,unpleasent experience plus its very very shocking and powerfully acted out exspecailly by {Wood} giving it an unpleasent realistic look into the every day lives of teenage girls led into things they should never be doing.A BTRILLIANT,GRIPPING,REALISTIC,SADLY DISTURBING,DEEPLY SHOCKING,UNPLEASENT AND HEARTBREAKING FILM THAT WILL KEEP YOU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT CRYING INTO A TISSUE FROM ITS NASTY STOMACH CHURNING START TO ITS FANTASTIC AND GRIPPING ENDINGTOTALLY BREATHTAKING AND UNDENIEABLE A TRUE MUST SEE FOR EVERYONE

What can I say about this one?It is the story of two teenage friends who slip off the track & turn into brats from hell.The camera work is skipping from here to there which spoilt the movie for me.Probably teenagers will relate to the film more than I did.

This film is extremely good at exurting the pressures made upon teens in modern day life. Teens & adults alike will enjoy watching (and perhaps relating) to this film as I know I have. The perfomance of Nikki Reed as a bad influence actually makes you feel this film is happening right before you, and you subconciously think your right there, as one of Tracey and Evies Friends witnessing the whole story of destruction. She somehow manages to nearly have the same effect on you, as she does Tracey (Evan Rachel Wood), and it's not hard to see how pursuasive Evie can be towards people, because of Nikki's marvelous perfomance. I think the reason this film pleases so many viewers young and old, is because is it true in some cases. And it shows the change from children to teenagers, and what dangers can, and usually are, found along the way. Another marvelous performance is demonstrated by Evan Rachel Wood, though at times she can be (only slightly)unconvincing in her role, though maybe only I have noticed it after all the times I have watched it! Despite this, she was rightly chose for the role of touching on delicate issues such as disorded eating, self harm, drug taking and excessive drinking, and I think any teen watching this (and going through the same thing) will be inspired to get help, as Tracey does, in the end. I certainly felt the same way as I watched it as a child. Holly Hunter did an amazing job as the worried and responsible mother, and all in all, this film was made exceptionally better by the cast, if not just the storyline. I can watch this film again, and again, and again! without tiring, and have bought this film twice off amazon (I lost the first disc!), It must be good enough for me to be coming back for more! Dive into this dark story of sex, drugs, drink and crime if you want an emotional film with a sense of desperation lurking within the characters!

Well this was a huge waste of time & money. I live in Canada, and cannot even play the dvd! It says “out of region”, so please… for the love of god, if you know how to tweak this, don’t waste your time. Buy the movie online!

Giving it 3 stars bc its my favorite movie but it’s from the UK and I live in the USA it didnt want to play on my DVD player !!!!!!!!!!! So pissed

This is literally my comfort movie, I love it so so much for the realism and the aesthetic…anyways, Tracy deserved better
