Five Stars
I used this substrate in combination with Karlie flamingo gravel, Beeztess nutrient soil and Beeztees river sand. I only used this as a very thin layer on the bottom of the tank, this has however proved sufficient in growing alot of plants in my tank, all my plants are growing very quickly and green and certainly have all the nutrients they need. They have put down many roots since planting, far better than in my LFS tank.Make sure to wash this soil before use, as it will cloud your tank and take a few days to settle otherwise. I did not wash mine and the water was brown and dusty for a long time. It is fine once it settles, so its your choice whether you want to wait or not.I used to have shrimp in my tank, and they did fine, so I can confirm it is shrimp safe. The bag it arrives in is very strong, which makes it easy to carry.

Poor growth compared to organic soil
So this is my third heavenly planted tank (the first two had a bottom layer of organic soil). I have a 260l tank with LED lighting. I decided to try Dennerle Nutribasis as my last two tanks with soil looked great, but the soil was very messy and the nutrients gradually dwindled to nothing by year 2-3. I read the reviews here and was very excited to use this product. Two months later and I have OK growth of plants, but nothing compared to the previous organic soil. I'm disappointed. I have Discus fish in my tank and it takes all day to completely clear, empty the tank and add a new substrate. If you have never planted a tank before, have a small tank and want something fuss free then this is fine. If you would like to grow a variety of plants successfully in a large tank then I would not buy this.Note- I have a variety of plants but even my Sag (easy plant) hasnt put out runners in two months. With soil they would be all over by now. Even an Amazon sword has shown little growth.

Use under another substrate
For any prospective buyer , only buy this when you are setting up your tank !! This is a sand like substance with peat , it needs to be put under a layer of another substrate.I have kept fish for around 30 years so I know a little about aquaria . The results so far are encouraging and plant root growth is healthy .I bought 3 bags for a 275 ltr tank which is adequate if putting another layer of substrate over it .My fish have dug a little and exposed part of the substrate but that's okay . I use CO2 also in my aquaria .

It's basically sand and you must rinse it thoroughly
When getting this product you need to empty it into a bucket and wash it through before putting it into your tank because it's full of debris which will destroy your filter system. Once you do that it's all great and works wonderful if you want sand.

No brown water, does the job without fuss
I purchased two bags for a 250l aquarium, which is plenty when using a sand substrate over the top. I had none of the issues I'd had with previous substrates turning the water brown, it's a good natural colour and after 4 weeks of use the plants have already grown quite well - this is without CO2 or other fertiliser. If you had a similar sized aquarium and were only using this for the substrate I would recommend 3 bags for a better coverage, this covered the base at around 1-2cm depth.

excellent product. Bought 2 of the small bags for my 64L aquarium, and have some left over. Covered with a thin layer of fine gravel and some larger pebbles and I've never had a better result setting up a tank before: water was perfectly clear from the moment I poured it in, not even the least bit murky or anything.Only just set up the aquarium 3 days ago, so can't comment on the results with the plants yet, but so far really pleased.Would recommend.

Good product . Needs to be put in the tank when first setting it up, under the gravel , before any water is put in .
