The Virgin Queen

unique and enjoyable
This is my favorite version of The Virgin Queen movie. Every time I watched it the music would stay with me for days. I have the CD in my car. Everyone who hears it, really enjoys it......even if it's not generally a genre they prefer. The only reason I didn't give the CD 5 stars is that a song or two are repeated.....makes the CD feel a little repetitive (however, not the first CD to do this). I think I would have just preferred a shorted CD. In any case, the music that is on there is fantastic. The voices and harmonies sublime. So, after numerous searches to try and find the soundtrack in the States, I ordered a used one from the UK. Quite frankly, even better! Although a little more expensive than the usual price for a CD, somehow it adds a little more authenticity to it. .....Besides I LOVE the UK. Anything from there just puts a smile on my face....

The Virgin Queen - Medieval Baebes
I bought this cd sound-track mainly on the strength of the TV series which aired in 2006 and just completely forgot about buying the album, however searching for the latest Mediaeval Baebes album brought a link to this sound-track, and so I bought both, which considering that the Medieval Baebes also make a number of appearances on the album I just made sense. Was I disappointed, in a word, No! Track number one -'The Virgin Queen,' is just so haunting I had hairs on the back on my arms stand on end.The rest of the album is brilliant, the highs and the lows of the beautiful musical harmonies just set up the whole album, so if you love this type of music or you're a fan of the Mediaeval Baebes then this is a must buy .

Spellbinding - Medieval Baebes!!
I was trying to read a book while my wife was watching the TV with 'the Virgin Queen' going - and the music kept pulling me out of my book. In the end I just had to get the soundtrack, and some of these tracks are absolutely great. Not all of them - there are a couple of instrumentals that leave me quite neutral - but the ones with the singing are superb. Through this CD I discovered that the singers are the Medieval Baebes, and I have been buying more CDs of *them*. But I still like some of these tracks best of all - 'Virgin Queen', 'Miserere nomine', 'Say it's not so' are quite mesmerizing. The first is based (loosely) on a poem written by Queen Elizabeth I and that adds a frisson. But even without that there are plenty of frissons - music with inbuilt tension... It may be cod-ancient, but it is grand, and I love it!

Quite simply - this is Stunning! A 'Work of Art'! I am delighted to be able to buy the music to the recent T.V. series, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Tracks 1, 2 ,4 and 17 are my favourites but the whole CD is truly uplifting and beautiful! A must have!!

If you are interested in Tudor history this is a MUST. The absolute best portrayal of Elizabeth 1 in my opinion. Brilliant actors, especially Anne-Marie Duff really bring history to life and gives greater understanding to the complexities and drama of the tudor court. The costumes, the scenery, the make up and the music create such a gripping atmospheric dramatisation it's impossible to stop watching. Highly recommended. Sorry Helen Mirren, usually a fan but this time Ann-Marie wins hands down!
