Smart to ground your downlead
I grounded my antenna for safety. This product is giving me protection and doesn’t reduce my received signals for an ais receiving station. The device is well built and seem to be a good value for the price.

I must have for radio users with outdoor antennas
It is important to make sure all your antennas are grounded well in case of a lightning strike. While some antennas use a rooftop magnet to bond the antenna to the ground of a vehicle, many boats, ATVs campers, etc. do not have a way to do this because the antenna is mounted to plastic or fiberglass. (Many novice users also don't realize the importance of this safety measure.)Adding this simple and reasonably priced arrestor to a grounding point could help prevent damage from a strike starting a fire and/or exploding your radio or cellphone setup. Note: after a lightning strike, the radio still may be toast, but greatly reduces the hazard to people. This is great for small handheld walkie-talkies, marine radios, and cellphone boosters that are connected to outside antennas.

Looks good, hard to test though!
The media could not be loaded. I can't say for sure if this will protect from a lightning strike or not, but it certainly looks like it will. The quality of the machining on this piece is excellent and the discharge tube inside looks as expected, it sure should do something to protect from lightning I would say. I want to put an antenna a little ways up on a family member's TV antenna mast and I think I will entrust this at the bottom before running coax into the porch where I will hook up my HT when I am visiting. It's a hefty little piece for its size.
