Product Description Set in Brooklyn, New York. Steven Seagal plays a martial arts expert cop Gino Felino, who vows to kill the man who murdered his best friend and colleague. In his investigation, Gino encounters numerous factions of small-time hoodlums, kicking his way through the lot of them. .co.uk Review Steven Seagal has always been an awkward action hero. Initially, he had a certain amount of credibility thanks to his nebulous association with secret government agencies and mastery of Aikido, which helped to excuse his bad acting. But as a self-righteous action hero in the vein of Schwarzenegger and Stallone, Seagal fell into unintentional self-parody faster and more dramatically than either of his two predecessors. In Out for Justice, Seagal plays Gino Felino, a Brooklyn-born cop known and respected by everyone--both good and bad--in his neighbourhood. The worst of the baddies is Richie Madano (William Forsythe), a crack-smoking killer who murders his partner and terrorises all. Technically, Felino is a terrible cop--touching evidence at murder scenes, stealing evidence, intimidating witnesses--but only by breaking those rules can he bring in this horrible criminal. As his soon-to-be-ex-wife discovers, he does everything because he cares too much. Julianna Margulies (ER) has a small but thankless role as Richie's hooker girlfriend, and Gina Gershon (Bound, Showgirls) has an equally thankless role as his foul-mouthed, bar-owning sister. --Andy Spletzer, .com

The local Coroner is going to have to work Overtime
Dear God :) ..... this is vintage Seagal in his Prime, with wall to wall bad guy's bodies, and that's before he warms up. He plays a hard nosed local detective, who gets real annoyed, as a friend gets taken down by the Bad Guy. From that moment on, its a case of how many bodies he gets through chasing the Bad Guy.There is no subtly - whatsoever - there is no finesse - whatsoever ...... so those with a sensitive disposition I urge you not to watch it. The film ends with more blood on the floor, than the local Blood Bank has in bottles.Frankly .... there is not much else to it rofl ..... you get the picture by now, so you'll Love it or Hate it; only you will know which is going to be true :)

Golden Period Seagal Still Shines
Out for Justice comes from the 'golden period' of Seagal's career, those first few films that introduced him to the world in the late 80s and early 90s. Even within that rarified company Out for Justice shines as an example of how to do a hard-edged action thriller. Not lacking in ambition, it even opens with a quote from writer Arthur Miller about the area the film is set in. Seagal plays Gino Felino, Brooklyn detective, beret-enthusiast and all-round bully and jerk. His good qualities include not standing for prostitutes being beaten by their pimps, a fluctuating respect for the older generation (he'll harass and arrest them, but at least he'll apologise later on), and loyalty to friends. William Forsythe masticates scenery with abandon as Felino's childhood friend Richie Madano, who, clearly tired of life, kills Gino's partner in broad daylight (for reasons explained later) and then hangs around, killing impatient drivers, menacing Julianna Margulies and waiting for Felino to find him.Gino is irate to begin with, but when Madano's thugs (variously lured by the promise of a safe full of money and other goodies despite Richie being very much an obvious danger to their health) target his family there's no coming back for Richie. That's pretty much it for the plot: Seagal looks around for Forsythe, stopping to hang out with mafia cliches, rescue an abandoned dog and be mean to Gina Gershon and Uncle Junior from The Sopranos. As mentioned above, Out for Justice seems to have more ambition than the average action movie, with its attempt at Godfather-lite mob movie themes. That doesn't stop it from getting business done as an action-packed thriller, from the classic bar fight to the even-by-today's-standard strong violence, and pretensions aside, an admirable focus on a solid story, well-told. Gino Felino is a genuinely unpleasant protagonist, a bullying thug that you rarely find as the 'hero' in movies. There's no soft backstory that explains why he's a jerk, he just is, a true antihero. He might like dogs, and hate pimps, but he's no nice guy under it all. And that is another part of what makes this stand out from other films of its ilk. Even if you're not a fan of Seagal there's his thick, dodgy Brooklyn accent to enjoy, too. Thoroughly entertaining action of the kind just not made anymore, and for me probably still (and likely to remain, I imagine) Seagal's best film. The blu-ray is region free, as are most of Warner's back catalogue, the picture is good quality and better than DVD, although the disk is bereft of extras. It's also worth mentioning Out for Justice opens with what I consider to be one of the greatest introductory sequences in cinema history. If from that point on you don't know you're going to love the movie, then probably best to turn it off and move onto something else. Enjoy!

If You Already Own the DVD, Don't Bother
If you already own the DVD, as I do, I wouldn't bother with this Blu-Ray. The picture is true 1080p, rather than being up scaled from the DVD, but the Blu-Ray is mastered from a grainy negative with plenty of imperfections, so the picture isn't that much better in reality, especially if you've got a good upscaler. The sound remains as DD5.1 - truly disappointing. No HD sound, and no better than the DVD.Yes, a great film and almost a classic of its genre. But stick with the DVD and save yourself a tenner.
