This is a stick with good and readable markings. It does its job with no complaints, day in and day out. It tracks through mud and trek through rain and snow. It is happiest during sunny days because you'll likely use it on those visible days. Seriously, it is light with excellent and large readable markings. First impression is that it is a good rod that should serve you a long time.

My prior experience with a grade rod was a long time ago. It was heavy, made of wood, and holding it up quickly got old, to say nothing of the splinters, which I remember quite well.--This is a sheer delight by comparison. The photos show it in its nylon case, then fully extended to sixteen feet, then telescoped to the intervals where each section locks in place. The action is smooth. There is a removable bubble level shown, plus one picture shows the slot in which it snugly fits, and another picture shows the proprietary velcro-closure bag for the level, which is sewn on to one end of the carrying case.--My only caution would be the long term outlook for the locking mechanisms. The aluminum body of this grade rod has square holes punched in it that fit the plastic latch buttons, which are spring loaded and pop up. Two close-up shots shows how the edges of these rectangular latch holes got a wee bit boogered up in either the punching or edge-filing process, and a couple of the plastic latch buttons have gotten scored rubbing against these rough spots. It might be that this effect will stabilize over time with more use, or it might portend future difficulty--it is impossible for me to predict. But I think it might be advantageous to use a little lightweight lubricant inside (possibly graphite, to keep from smearing up the rod with goo). I would give this a 4.8 rather than a 5, were it possible, because of that one unknown, but it does not seem important enough to knock it down to a "4"--this is a nice tool. I think it's worth the listed price, possibly even more!

The materials and craftmanship of this ruler look very good. The finished details and functionality based on the tolerances of the stackable segments (I have the 16ft version that has 5 sections) slide very well and stay in place. Make sure you extend the next section completely (until the guide snaps into the grove) so it won't slide back down during your measurement.Keep in mind that in order to have the correct measurement, each segment in use must be completely extended until the guide snaps into place. If you ceiling is too low to allow for the next segment to be completely extended, you can't use the markings on this ruler to measure the length of interest.One feature I missed when I ordered this is the bubble level that can be attached to the ruler to ensure it is truly vertical. This has been very useful to realize how crooked some rooms are.Very good product. I would recommend it.

I’m constantly hanging or rearranging things like pictures, paintings, photos or shelves, and have been doing this with a 3-ft. bubble ruler, which is obviously not ideal for measuring straight up a wall, or making sure your hangers are level. The rod itself is made from a high-grade aluminum alloy and has a really nice weight and balance. The numbers are bold and etched onto the rod with black enamel, and they’re extremely easy to read. And the expansion clamps are rugged and all lock securely annd tightly into place.Because this is actually a 16’ rod and not just a ruler or traditional tape measure, I now use this as my go-to measurement device. But the biggest plus is I don’t require any help to use it. When I’m hanging pictures or shelves, I can simply stand the rod up on its own, adjust it according to the bubble, and mark the desired spot - all by myself.I really couldn’t be happier with this measuring rod, and I’m certain I’ll find more uses for it as time goes on. Survey level are made to measure feet to a 1/100 th of a foot. Not feet- inches . Measuring to an 1/8 th of a foot is only for carpentry work . 1/8 th of carpentry cuts, levels etc. Is the maxium allowable therefore the work will usually be sub standard using this rod for elevation measurements
