I purchased this product for a room I redecorated in my basement. The letters are glossy. If you apply them outdoors you might paint a varnish over them... just in case. You also might want to discuss this with the creator of the product. They do adhere quite well, however. Just be careful when removing the backing. They do stick to the paper some. I had to use a small, sharp knife to remove the letters with no damage to them. Good luck.
