Great camera for the price.
Got it two days after ordering, well packaged and in good shape. The car charger does include two USB ports, we had no problem charging the phone and powering the Yi dash cam from the car charger. Also included are two mounting brackets, one with adhesive and one with a suction cup. Although it is fairly easy to assemble, there isn't a quick release mechanism to hide the dashcam in the car when leaving. You would have to unscrew it from the holder each time.We ordered a Transcend High Endurance 64Gb MicroSD card for it, which was formatted when inserted into the dash cam. The 16Gb card that comes with the camera isn't very fast, so you get skipping in the video. A better SD card resolves that issue, especially for the high resolution modes. It was easy to set up with the Yi Dashcam App from the Google Play store. It appears to check the firmware in its own time, then issues the option to upgrade if there is newer firmware available plus a summary of fixes in that release. We installed the firmware, then noticed that it resets the device options we had set (including the Wifi password, and the recording quality was reset to 1080p). We have two phones, both of them can control the dash cam and download videos. The videos are in 264 format rather than 265, which would cut the size about in half and almost double the amount of video on a card. Apparently the Chinese cameras have 265 support, so hopefully a firmware patch in the future enables 265 format. There are two copies of the video - one is a low resolution for quick access, the other is the full quality recording. To download a video to the phone, go to the SD Card panel, which displays all files on the dashcam. Select a file and it will start to play. Press the down-arrow icon at the bottom of the screen, and it will let you select a portion of the file to download (it appears to default to the middle 30 seconds). The videos are placed into the folder \DCIM\YiCarCamera on the phone, and we easily moved them to our Windows 10 computers to view on our monitors. The sound recording is fairly good, we could understand our voices even with music playing.Overall we are very happy with the Yi dash cam. Great dash cam for the price.Edit: It's almost 2 years later now, and the camera is still going strong. The suction cup which holds it to the windshield releases about every 6 months, but it is easy to re-attach. Still very happy with the purchase.

Great picture quality, great app, mounting mechanism could be better.
Only had the camera for a few months and it's already caught some bad driving by other drivers. I feel secure knowing that the camera is on and recording what is going on.The picture quality is fantastic. I have it set to the 2.7k resolution and the video quality is very crisp and clear. I have a 64GB SD card installed it seems to hold about 5-6 hours of driving footage. The USB cable it comes with was plenty long and I was able to route the cable through my dash, pillar and over to the center top of my windshield. I wish the camera came with a few sticky cable management clips so I could clip the cable to the top of the windshield. I had to purchase some after the fact which is fine but would've added an extra touch.I'm using the sticky windshield mount and it holds to the glass just fine. No concerns of it coming off (have had it installed for 3 months). I park the car in the public so i always make sure to remove the camera and put it in my glove box. The mounting mechanism is basically a screw on which is kind of a pain to screw and unscrew when I'm leaving the car unattended for long period of time. Just something to be aware of if you're going to be mounting and mounting the camera often. If it mounted via some sort of quick clip on/off method that would've made this camera easily 5 stars for me.The app to interact with the camera is very easy to use and intuitive. The app is able to connect to the camera easily and you're able to adjust all settings and view recordings as well as download video clips. The app experience is easily 5 stars and you can tell they've invested a lot of time and money into making sure the app works well.If you don't plan to mount/unmount the camera often because you have private parking and are not concerned with someone breaking into your car to steal it then this camera is easily 5 stars.

Incredible Bang for Your Buck
I am in love with this dash cam. I did some researching and tried to find the best value in my budget. Well my budget was $70, so this fit in quite well. Highly recommended by Reddit I decided to go ahead and order it. I don't regret my purchase one bit.Let's start with picture quality, it's honestly pretty good, I can make out license plates on nearby cars pretty easily, the camera doesn't get white-out by the sun too bad, and the night camera is pretty decent as well, it'll only pick up what's in your headlights, but it picks up all of what's in your headlights (which most dash cam's can't manage).Audio quality is surprisingly decent too, it doesn't sound too tinny, though I usually remove audio anyways.One-Touch Emergency Recording is a blessing, something I'll always value in a dash cam.The App: I was surprised by how well made the app is. It connects quickly, isn't too laggy, is pretty intuitive, and surprisingly polished. The app allows you to view the live video from the dash cam, view recordings, trim & save recordings, and adjust the cam's settings. The mount: I used the suction cup mount and it's pretty decent, I'd say about on par with most other Amazon-level suction cups. It's just a standard rubber though, so don't expect one of the fancy new suction cups that can mount to anything. With that being said, the camera also comes with a dash mount that can be stickied-on, no suction cup necessary. The cord was the perfect length, literally. I have maybe an inch or two of slack, but it feels like a high quality cord, we will see. the cord has a 90 degree bend at the end to reduce wear near the dash cam. The power adapter seems solidly build and has 2 USB ports, so you don't lose the ability to charge your phone. All in all, I'm highly impressed with the quality of this camera, especially for the price. Well done.

Great dash camera allover
The media could not be loaded. I came up the idea of buying a dash camera because one day a guy reverse into me and ran away even if I stepped out of the car and shouted. The camera itself is the right size for me and hassle-free to install with a lot of accessories provided. What impressed me the most is that the seller put a 16 gig MicroSD card in the box, so you can just open up and use it straight away. The video recording, I recognise, is not the very top range but well worth the money. The videos you recorded are split into multiple files by 1-minute length and each of them is 120 megabytes, so you can do the calculation of how many videos it can save simultaneously. When the storage is full, it will overwrite the oldest file while record new ones. The recording angle, I assume, is pretty the same as what you can see. It can record both lanes and part of the pavement. For the video quality at night, you can easily tell the reg of the car in front or even not so far from you. Software wise, it is really handy. The cam itself provides built-in WIFI features so that you can connect your phone to the cam and pull the videos straight back without connecting to your computer. Also, the app is like a community that you can share your own recording and I found some of them is masterpieces. In general, the cam does the job and beyond. For me, I will try the more premium 4K ones after this one.

A worthy competitor in a flooded market.
A great starter dashcam that's towards the higher price range for a starter cam. Pretty much 'plug and play' straight out of the box, just need to put the included memory card in the dashcam and switch on. It will prompt you to format the card, which take seconds, and your good to go. You can easily change the resolution of the recordings to suit your needs in the easy to access and navigate menu. The are various other options to play with, my only gripe is that you cannot change the recording time of one minute per file. The are two mounts included, one uses a suction cup and the other uses a 3M sticking pad for permanent fixing to your window screen. I use the suction cup mount and have found that it is a strong hold and have only had to re attach it to my window screen once, this is to be expected when using this type of fixing. There is an official app that has a few other options and allows you to stream the recordings to your phone but it is not necessarily needed as you can easily transfer files to a Windows computer/laptop using a USB lead that supports file transferring or using a memory card adapter if your computer or laptop has a memory card slot. Not sure if you can easily transfer to a Mac as other reviewers have pointed out that Mac uses a different memory card format that is not compatible with this dashcam, at the time of writing this review. As far as the recording quality goes, I have noticed that there is a small amount of lens flare when the sun is shining directly on the lens but other than that the picture quality is great. A side note to keep in mind is that the camera records two files for each clip with one of them a highly compressed file for reviewing purposes, so when you stream directly to the app the quality of the recording is lower than that of the full file. Overall I would definitely recommend this cam if you want to pay less than £100 for a high res dashcam.

Well worth the money
This Yi dashcam is priced at around what you'd pay for a Nextbase product from your local Halfords, which might seem expensive when Yi has made a name for itself by offering good value. This dash cam is still great value as it comes with features one or two steps up from an equivalent Nextbase. First, most importantly, the picture quality is very good, at every resolution and frame rate. The lens is also usefully very wide at 140 degrees, and there is a software feature installed to correct the distortion wide angles create on closer objects (e.g. the bowed look of the bonnet). The final images are great.I also have an older version of the Yi ( YI 2.7" Screen Full HD 1080P60 165 Wide Angle Dashboard Camera, Car DVR Vehicle Dash Cam with G-Sensor, WDR, Loop Recording, Grey ) which is a perfectly good device, and at under £40, brilliant value. I have installed that camera in my wife's car, replacing what turned out to be a very buggy and unreliable Philips unit that cost £100 ( Philips ADR61BLX1 ADR 610 Full HD Car Driving Video Recorder Dashcam ). Both Yis come with wifi built in, so you can more easily adjust settings and transfer files to your phone. The Philips, apart from just turning itself off at random times, is entirely manual in operation, and requires you to remove the camera (or card) to connect to a laptop to get the files off, and has a much narrow field of view compared with both Yis.This newer Yi comes with a few extras that the older one didn't, so although more expensive, you don't need to buy a memory card as it has a quality Toshiba card included, and it also comes with a handy tool to help you chase the cabling away. The newer Yi also has a two USB port socket, so even when powered up, you still have the ability to connect another USB cable to charge your phone for instance. With previous cameras, I had to buy a separate socket doubler, which was far bulkier. This Yi also comes with two types of windscreen attachment - brackets with a suction cup and a 3M adhesive strip. Personally, I prefer the cup as it gives you more options. I'd attached the Philips with adhesive (the only option) and although it was perfectly sturdy, I had problems reattaching it to a new windscreen, following a stonechip that cracked while being filled in.All in all, although not cheap, this Yi is great value. However, it's still very hard to argue with the older 1080p model, which is well worth considering if you don't want to stretch to this newer model. Not as good as I'd hoped...
I ordered two Yi dash cameras on 26th December 2018, as both were reduced in the Boxing Day sale. I had seen reviews for the Ultra model elsewhere online, and had watched several YouTube videos where the footage was clear and sharp enough to capture the registration numbers of vehicles driving past in the opposite direction. In anticipation, I ordered one of the Yi "Ultra" 2.7K cameras along with a Yi "Mini" model, which slopes against the windscreen. My intention was to install the Ultra model to the front windscreen of my car, and the Mini model to the rear. Both are replacing existing Transcend DP100 models which are slightly dated now.The free delivery was typically slow, but they arrived safely and I installed them yesterday, 3rd January. The products and packaging both suggest they're of high quality, however as soon as I installed the Ultra model, I noticed a dead pixel on the LCD screen. It shows up as bright green in colour and is located to the lower right. Although the camera is slightly larger than I expected, it doesn't take up much room due to the mount, which is very low profile and discreet. I took the car for a drive to test the camera in three varying light levels - daytime, evening and night. Ultimately, the pros and cons I've found are as follows:1. The resultant footage is NOT as clear, crisp or high quality as the YouTube videos would have you believe. Even set at the highest resolution, I couldn't capture one single number plate of a vehicle passing in the opposite direction, even at low speed. The only time I was able to do so was when I passed a static vehicle waiting in the middle of the road to turn! At night, even in the lit car park of my local Aldi, the contrast was awful. The building was a bright, glowing square and the little details (like the door, windows or posters) were not visible at all. Elsewhere, the remainder of the car park was pretty much pitch black. I'll drive back to re-capture the footage and I'll upload some still images to demonstrate the above two points.2. The camera records footage in 1 minute chunks and there is absolutely NO option to alter or change this. In the event of a road-rage incident or capturing an RTC with aftermath footage, this could be very difficult - both as far as the logistics of passing it to the police or insurance company go, and also for the user to stitch together.3. The footage is encoded in H.265 format, not the more universally-accepted H.264, so the video files won't play on my TV or my Cyclone Micro 4 media player. They will only play on the computer through VLC, which is a bit disheartening.4. As mentioned above, as soon as I started the camera up, I noticed a dead pixel on the LCD screen. Although it doesn't affect the resultant footage, it suggests the build quality isn't as good as it looks, and with the pixel being bright green, it's quite distracting when you're trying to adjust or alter settings.I've contacted Yi Support via e-mail, and have attached photographs of the dead pixel. I'm currently awaiting a response and will update this review as and when I receive one. Ultimately, I'd consider buying this camera again, but only if it was at the same price I paid (£44.99) or less. It's certainly not worth the full price, and I suspect a lot of the YouTube reviewers received a higher quality model for reviewing purposes. As bog-standard Joe Public, I appear to have been sold a cheaper, mass produced unit that isn't as sharp or effective as everything led me to believe.

Can work with Macs too
I Received my Yi Ultra and installed it.The Dashcam comes with everything you require - including both adhesive and suction mounts, an 11.5' USB cable, a 16GB SD card and a USB power supply that plus into the cigarette lighter. The power supply has two USB ports - so you plug the Dashcam into one, and you still have one spare. It also comes with a plastic tool to help route the cable in the trim round your windscreen.Despite reviews from others saying that the SD card didn't work in Macs, I found that it worked fine as long as I formatted the SD card on my Mac (macOS the latest Mojave) with the correct 65536 byte allocation block size required by the Yi. Unfortunately you need to use Terminal commands. Google "mac sd card format allocation block" for details of how to use the 'newfs_msdos' command to do this.
