Q: Does this case have a textured or a smooth finish?

The top and bottom still have the silicone rubber exposed so there is some grip and extra protection if it gets dropped. The hard body part (the colored part) is smooth

Q: I think I only received the front part of the case? Is there a back?

yes front and back but no screen protector

Q: is it really drop proof?

I mean...we have all tile floors in my house and I'm notorious for dropping /throwing onto my bed and having it bounce and fly off and it does great. Would I test it by throwing down the stairs intentionally or off a two story building...NO! haha. But I think it has been fabulous for regular, normal use and clumsliness. ***PLEASE NOTE- as it explains in the description of the product, the case does NOT come with a screen protector, so I recommend getting a ZAGG glass screen cover or something similar to give you as much protection as possible
