KIT MAGNETISM STATIC ELECTRICITY : Say NO!
I bought this product for the purpose of using it as a teaching aid for my 8 year old son. I had high hopes. In the magnetism kit, there were supposed to be 2 ring magnates, 1 bar magnate (which broke in two pieces as I tried to unstick it from the other magnates. The two supposedly "ring" magnates in fact did not have holes in them so the were just flat round shapes.I nonetheless tried to pesevere and tried to show the magnetic lines of force by sprinkling the iron filings on a piece of paper. Except the iron filings were more like powder and being too fine simply coallesced into a amorphous mass and there fore could not see anything after putting the magnates under the paper. I gave up on this.I went next to the experiment that is meant to show that warm atmosphere rises above the cold part. This experiment involves filling one glass with, as its describes, very hot water, and the other glass with very cold water. So, you are supposed to pu some dye in the hot water (food colouring) fill it to the brim and then cover it with the cardboard square provided. Then turn the glass with the very hot water together with the cardboard cover (which by now was beginning soak through and droop)you have to turn the glass over, and providing you have not scolde yourself, plave it on top of the cold want glass and then remove the cardboard from between them to show that the hot coloured water stays on top of the cold water. Unfortunately the cardboard was so soaked that the hot water spilled ou of the glass. At least I was wearing glass. My son had a good laugh, got bored and went to play elsewhere, leaving me to clean up the mess.I paid nearly £50 for this kit which I would not value at more than £10 on a good day. A total rip-off.Buyer beware!
