How to deal with the problem if it stopped working?

Per the manual, more than 300 times.  Typical answer for Lithium Polymer batteries. Consider if you use this as a fire starting tool, how many campfires do you build every year... 300 (minimum) goes a long way. 
Now I find this a very useful item for a fire making kit. Note it has limitations, "ignition power" -wise.  Pros are it's windproof for sure (a BIG pro), but so are Incendiary Matches (UCO). The incendiary matches have more ignition power, that is, they will ignite more mass (e.g., a thick twig, pinecone, or an Esbit tab) than will the arc. But the Arc costs about as much as one UCO Stormproof match kit plus one refill, only 50 matches total - so the Arc lighter is far more economical and very effective when used wisely. The ad says 300 ignitions/charge and the instructions say 300 charges, giving 90,000 ignitions over the lifetime of the battery. Even if it winds up being 50/charge and 200 charges, that's 10,000 ignitions versus 50 for the incendiary matches for the same $. 
So I use the Arc to ignite a starter (e.g., a cotton ball with vaseline, waxed jute cord, or a commercial fire starter), and this works quickly every time to start the fire chain (ignition -> starter/accelerant -> tinder -> kindling -> fuel).  The flex head is a help to reach into the fire lay. I also sometimes use the arc to ignite a length of waxed jute cord which I then use to reach into the fire lay to ignite a starter or tinder.
Another use for the Arc is to ignite an IsoPro or Propane camping stove. 
I have never 'run out of battery power' even on week-long camping trips... I do charge the Arc as well as my headlamp, GPS watch, and USB Recharger before each trip.
