Kind of a let down at first but overall a very addictive game if you have friends with you
I am kind of disappointed so far. I have been looking forward to this game because of my love for the Halo series. I had some assumptions before I played the game, and I tried my best to avoid any information about it before the release (although I spent only a couple hours playing the beta to get a taste). The biggest let down for me so far is that you cannot simply team with people you run into in the world. I thought that's how MMOs are supposed to work! The fact that you have to team with someone on your friend's list is a pain in the neck. I work all week and I do not have time for organizing teams, clans, etc, and I just want to do things on the fly, like I can do with countless other games in co-op modes (such as GoW). I really hope they fix that issue. The PvP is pretty fun so far, but I have only played maybe 10 games of it. There could be more maps, and nothing beats close range shotgun to the face. Although I am low level now (around 11 or 12) and I see many people with 20-24 and they seem to take me out in 2 seconds with a ranged weapon. That's okay, if you're a hunter and you have gunslinger, you pretty much have 3 one-shot kills no matter who you are facing!Another issue for me is the low sensitivity. This has always been an issue with Halo. I always maximize the sensitivity, and it's still too darn slow! I guess I am used to PC FPSs, and I sometimes use the Xim Edge or CronusMax on my consoles, so that I can use the mouse/keyboard combo. I have not tried that yet with Destiny, but it will probably be like Halo...too slow. The story is pretty cool so far, but it seems like it will be short. I have read that Activision/Bungie expect this game to last 10 years, so they better have a lot of things in mind. The level cap of 20 is kinda funny since I saw people 2 days after release have it, but I suspect they will raise it with expansions.I really hope that the game is not all hype. I have already been extremely disappointed with other new releases like NHL 15 (I refuse to buy it at the current price point because EA did not include so many features), but I hope that Destiny will not make me regret paying for it with the new price tag. I still have some hope because the game had a ridiculous development budget. I work in software, so I guess I expected more.I will gladly update my review in the future. For now, I just hope to get on-the-fly party/fireteam teaming when I'm out in the open. I don't like solo missions sometimes because I feel my Hunter is a bit gimpy, even if I am 2-3 levels above the level of the mission.Part of me also wishes there was more ammo in single player mode. I understand limited ammo in multiplayer, and yes, I know that enemies drop ammo, but I remember playing my first fireteam/strike mission on Earth where I would EASILY run out of ammo while trying to take out the boss. My team had to keep killing the boring side mobs to get more ammo, that we would then just to dump into that giant machine spider thingy.I almost gave this game 2 stars, but I decided on a 3rd because I think you can still have fun at low levels in multiplayer, and you can always level up in multiplayer to make it a little easier in single player missions. Also, the game looks amazing on next-gen consoles. Anyway, I hope to generate some discussion about this game. Does anyone agree/disagree with my pros/cons?-----------------------------------------Update: 10/8/14I am level 19 now (slowly making my way through the story and doing some more multiplayer) and I am still disappointed in this game. The missions are so repetitive, and it's easy to run out of ammo on these missions. The Vex don't drop nearly enough IMO. I just did a couple missions on Mars. I still really want to like this game more. The story is just blah.I would really love the ability to team with people on the fly for story missions. Otherwise, you can do some leveling from patrol missions. There is a new multiplayer mode after the latest update, but I can't tell the difference between it and regular Control.Update: 7/20/15I am changing my review to 5 stars because even though Bungie does things to tick me off, the game is very addictive. They are going to nerf the gally and some other weapons, but they will find a way to make you continue playing this gameThis game is all about end-game content, so you will keep redoing raids and such. Just find a nice group and you will have more fun than just lone-wolfing by trying to get teams on destinylfg.

FPS fans beware, this is a Halo MMORPG
If you do not like MMORPG games you probably will not like Destiny plain and simple. If you are unfamiliar with the MMORPG genre then you may want to wait before spending the money on this game. This is very much set up exactly like your typical MMORPG game with the difference of it being implemented with FPS controls. Those who are big fans of Battlefield/COD genre and expect to walk into this game only play the multiplayer will probably be disappointed by this game. While the multiplayer is fun, you will need to play some of the story or Strike missions in order to acquire the best equipment and weapons available along with the materials necessary to upgrade that equipment. While the multiplayer is set up so that levels are equalized, the weapon bonuses and armor bonuses still apply making it important to get the best equipment you can get your hands on.I think the most frustrating part of this game which will turn many people off is that acquiring better weapons and equipment is done randomly and has nothing to do with player performance. You could have the most points, kills, assists, and have 0 deaths in a multiplayer match and at the end get 0 items for your efforts while someone else who had 4 kills and 16 deaths gets 2 rare items. Similarly in the Strike missions you could have 140 kills and finish of the last boss and still get 0 items at the end. Hopefully this is something Bungie takes a look at and decides to fix eventually but i wouldn't hold my breathe because it seems they did this intentionally.I agree with most people that the biggest fault this game has is there is a very loose and confusing story and lack of explanation of anything other than how to move and shoot a gun. After beating the game, i am not sure i know much more of what the story is actually about other than what i knew from the trailers and intro video to the game. There also is very little to no explanation or tutorials of how any of the mechanics of game work or what half of the things mean. If you haven't played an MMORPG before you will be very confused and overwhelmed and will probably finish the entire story without realizing how half the mechanics of the game work. Even after playing 2 different MMORPG's i found myself confused and clueless about numerous things causing me to google it or browse the Destiny forums for more information because it was not explained anywhere in the game. While this game feels very bare bones on release, i believe it was done intentionally because Bungie plans to release a lot of additional content in stages, true to MMORPG fashion. Bungie seems to be playing the card where they will feed players just enough content in each updated and expansion to keep players addicted without releasing too much at once. I think this may have backfired a little because I, like many players, think they should have and defintiely could have given players more content and a better story on release than they did.For you Halo fans, this is very much Halo implemented as an MMORPG. Everything from the weapons to enemies and the strategies to kill certain enemies are very obviously taken from Halo and teeters on the edge copyright infringement. Some of the stuff is downright laughable how obviously it was copied from Halo. All that being said i think this game is still fun to play with friends and leaves room for a lot of expandability. But it will get boring quick if Bungie doesn't release additional content soon. This game deserves 3.5 stars in my mind because i enjoy the idea of combining the MMORPG and FPS genre to something i can play on a console without paying a monthly subscription, but i am also disappointed in the lack of a coherent story and available content upon launch.

The game itself plays like a merger of Halo and WoW
I never got much into the hype of Destiny, pre-ordering it on a whim without really knowing what the game was. I am really enjoying the game. The game itself plays like a merger of Halo and WoW.

The game looks amazing, runs very well (did not notice many dips in FPS) , and combat is a lot of fun as you start to level your character - however their is an absolute lack of lore for the worlds that you are in, with Bungie deciding to have all the lore OUTSIDE of the game through grimoire cards, the lack of context for why all the enemies are here wanting to eradicate humanity, the realization after you've been through two-three worlds out of the four that all the missions are fundamentally the same (think objective based horde mode),an absolutely atrocious loot reward system and an endgame that consists of multiple slow reputation grinds..These problems have unfortunately brought down what could have been an otherwise amazing game, people feel the game is 'incomplete' or 'gutted' due to the lack of content and story, they are right. Here's hoping Bungie speeds up their '10 year plan' and release enough content and fixes to make this game to what it is meant to be.

Oh God, where do I start.
I had high hopes for destiny (as did so many other people), but for the second time this year (watch dogs), I'm (even more) disappointed. First, let's get the pro's out of the way (aint much)Pros:+ Very tight gameplay, really fast, and claustrophobic at times (lots of enemies at times)+ Graphics look fantastic, and show what next-gen consoles can do (look at earth on the moon levels, OMG)+ Music is really good, get's a tad annoying at times (like the freaking ANNOYING Set Destination Menu Music)And that's it. Here's why I don't like the game so much.Cons:- Endless (ENDLESS) grinding just to level up and get especially random gear, all items are randomly generated so if you do really well (better than your friends), your friends could get better gear, what's worse is that you can't trade gear.- Severe lack of MMO community enforcements, you're only allowed to play with 3 friends on most maps.- Bosses (and most enemies) are just sponge-bullets, they soak up damage, all you have to do is shoot and not get shot at.- Peter Dinklage (great actor on Game of Thrones) does a poor performance of your Little robot follower.- Frequent "Defend the Turret" sections, you shoot a bunch of annoying waves of enemies, while he decrypts some kind of door.- (How have I not said this yet) There is minimal story for this big game, any smallest chance of getting a story immediately sounds like future DLC "I could tell you of the travelers great defeat (or some BS) BUT THAT'LL COST 19.99 OR GET THE SEASON PASS for 49.99"- There's three different classes (Warlock, Titan, Hunter) but they're all very similar, the only differences are Melee attacks, Grenades, and your super charged abilities, but you use the same guns (guns look very similar to one another) and there is no special equipment for certain classes.- the multiplayer is horribly balanced (one team can be way more overpowered than another, I was apart of that overpowered team sometimes) and unfair.- Voice acting feels awkward and out of place at the crucible shops (it's either too quiet, over performed, or too loud) It might be because of the Severe lack of voice acting throughout the entire game, the only voice you really here that much is Dinklage's poor performance.I'm sure there is much more bad things I could say (but this is all at the top of my head, sorta) about this game. But really I might be harping on this game too much, but I can't help it, first the 60 dollar price of admission, and then it tries to be so many things (RPG, FPS, MMO) and fails at being good at them. It failed to deliver it's promise (seriously look at it's 2013 trailer, it looks so different) and now gathers dust on my shelf.Verdict: Save your money, I'd only buy it at 30 bucks.

Amazing game but finished story quickly
Amazing game but finished story quickly. Very well priced as I've paid £30 for games that were worse and shorter, The good thing with this game is that when the story is finished you can reply and unlock new challenging stages. It also has the American "T" on the front meaning 13+ can play which I think is great .
