Cowon iAudio X9 Super Player 16GB MP3 Portable Media Player with 110 Hours Battery Life

Having had a few players over the past couple of years, including couple that would play FLAC files, I was always left wanting. I used a half decent pair of Jvc HA-FXC80E Carbon Integrated In Ear Canal Headphone and also some Jvc circumaurals. Somehow the sounds never satisfied. Having read all the reviews I could find I decided to try the above player. The ONLY thing that I was concerned with was it's sound quality, all else was and is of no interest. A lot of people had said that the user interface is hard to navigate, as a techno numpty this was a little worrying. The handbook is laughable, no use to man nor beast. The interface however isn't as I expected, it's way easier than I thought it would be. Yes it took a little time, a whole hour or two, so I'm not complaining. Now the ace card, the sound. I started off with the same 'phones as previously and was blown away by the difference that I could detect. With a raft of pre-sets, and the ability to create my own user profiles, with the on-board equaliser, I couldn't ask for more. Bass, mids and trebles are all clean, with no unwanted or unexpected nasties. With sound quality like this a headphone upgrade was required. To that end I went and bought a new pair of Bang & Olufsen H3's. WOW now I can really appreciate what the X9 has to offer, and that is musical perfection. First of all i bought this Media Player because I had to return the previous ordered one (Cowon i10), but I really don't regret this choice.About the player:What's good:+ 100 hours of (music) playback+ intuitive UI+ 16 GB + microSD slot+ Physical buttons for "play/pause", "Next/Previous", a hold button and a volume rocker+ JetEffect 5└>Really good sound customisationWhat's bad:- fairly big device (72.5mm*115mm*12.2mm)- touchscreen is not up to date(-) screen resolution is not that great nevertheless the screen has good colors and is brightAltough there are also some Contras I really love this device. The size of the player is no problem for me (just wanted to mention that it is actually quite big), because I think the playback time outweighs the size. I also think that the screen all in all is not to bad, because I really like the colors and its bright. I "just" rate this device with 4 out of 5 because I think that the touchscreen could serve better. Thats why I really like the device having the physical buttons but nevertheless you have to scroll through you music with the touchscreen.The audio quality of this player is just brilliant and there's not really anything what is bad about it (At least in my opinion). Theres is no ambient noise and the sound customisation via JetEffect 5 is great.I really recommend this player for those who want a stable device with a huge battery life (and playback time) and good audio quality. This device is really good at what it does and for me it is the player I was looking for.4/5 - Really great device!

I bought this with a memory card but I didn't get as far as testing it.Copied my music files (only 10GB at first) to the device with Windows 7 and then safety disconnected without any problems. Turned it back on and I got the "X9, Designed by Cowon" screen come up with the progress bar and it just gets stuck. I left it for 2 hours and it never starts up.Used the + and - signs to restart it a number of times to no avail.Sent back for a refund.

I give one star for the best audio performance of any MP3 player that I have tried and one star for good battery life. If you use this product only in your home, for example to supplement an unreliable CD hifi deck then it is an excellent choice. Unfortunately, most MP3 players are used whilst on the go and here the Cowon X9 performs badly. It is the size of a pack of cards, so not easy to tuck in anywhere to carry. The operating system is appalling; not at all intuitive and with a touch screen that is actually a prod screen, adept at selecting the choice next to the one that you were actually making. After 4 months, I shall be reverting to my SanDisk MP3 player, a much more effective all rounder and leaving this one in its box, just in case my CD hifi deck becomes unreliable.
