Excellent little Safe
I own a gun. I have two small kids. I wanted quick access to my gun for home defense but to keep it safe from the kids. I have various safes at home including a Barska biometric fingerprint safe and a keyed in wall safe. Each have drawbacks. The Barska safe while it was very nice, it did not open 100% of the time with the use of my finger print. Plus it needs batteries, which could fail. Murphy's law would dictate that it would only happen when you are in an emergency. The keyed in wall safe while hidden and secure needs a key which also needs to be hidden from the kids which means it would take a while to get the key and fumble around with it and try to get the safe open. Not a great situation.I happened upon the V-Line after looking a long time for the ideal safe. It has a mechanical lock which consists of 5 buttons and a knob. You can program it however you wish and was simple to do. Works every time. Takes a second to open it. No fingerprint to worry about, no key to lose or fumble with. The safe is small enough to hide well from sight. I have mine installed under the night stand. Very difficult to see unless you got down on your hands and knees to look. The safe it self is made of heavy steel and is powdercoated in black. Fit and finish was excellent and for the price it had better be. There is a tray that fits in the safe so you can pull things out without having to stick your hand in. You have to realize the safe is kind small. The hinge is very nice and welded on one side to deter one from trying to punch out the pin. It comes with only the mount that you see on top of the unit. There are two thumbscrews you can unscrew from the inside of the safe to detach it from the mount and take the safe with you. The Universal mount bracket DOES NOT come with it. The picture is misleading. This means you can only mount it to an under surface. For me it did not matter. Just be aware you would have to spend additional money to get the extra bracket.Anyway, it seems like a very secure way to keep the kids from the gun. I have two quibbles with the safe. I use it to store a full size Smith and Wesson 1911 in there and it is slightly too big for the safe. The beavertail of the gun pokes out just enough to keep the door from closing if I lay the gun on the left side which is the position I would prefer it in. If I lay the gun on the right side though, there is a bit of room for the beaver tail to fit into and the gun fits fine without having to force the door closed. The locking mechanism gets in the way. I would have liked to have laid the gun in the tray and slid that into the safe but the fit was even tighter that way. A full size M&P pistol fits in perfectly with room to spare. I suppose I could stick one of my smaller guns in the case but I prefer the 1911 for home duty.My other quibble is that the safe is decorated with the gold trim you see in the picture. While it does look sharp and is well done, it really attracts attention to the safe. Like I said I have it under my nightstand and wanted it to be stealthy so what I did was to take black duct tape and try to cover up as much of the gold bits as possible. Looks pretty ghetto but hey at least it's harder to see. Without the tape you eyes go right to the safe. With the duct tape it just looks like a shadow under the night stand. All in all, a fantastic little safe for a handgun. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Sturdy and Secure! Quality Product That I'm Happy to Own..
Excellent security case!My wife told me I could keep a gun by the bedside *if* it was locked up. I immediately hit Google to find something appropriate. Due to the style of my night table and location, I felt a "hanging" style vault was the best fit for me. I checked out a few of the brands and styles, and I decided that biometric locks and electronic locks were just not for me... I'm a little old school and prefer a mechanical device. This vault fit the bill nicely and I ordered. The case itself has some good heft to it! It feels solid and is very well constructed. Instructions for changing the combination were *almost* clear cut.. the procedure to change it is perfectly fine, but they didn't really explain *in depth* that you could use ANY combination as long as numbers don't repeat. They do mention no repeats, but they stressed "2 and 3 button" sequences were simple but secure. They should have given examples showing that you could even use TWO 2-button sequences if desired. For example, you could use all 5 numbers in a separate sequence like 5,2,3,1,4. Or maybe just 3,2,1. I think you could even get away with a single number! (tbh, I didn't try that). But you can also use combinations like 1+3+5, or 2+5. Or even a mix like 1, 2+5 AND 3+4. Bottom line is; you can get pretty creative with a combination as long as each number is only used once in the sequence.Anyway... as I mentioned, the case is pretty solid and easy to mount. It does NOT include any mounting hardware, so know your material beforehand and get some washers... the mounting holes are a bit large! My night table's surface is 3/4 inch thick so I went with 3/4 inch wood screws and a washer to mount mine. There are four holes to mount the plate. Once mounted, you line up the tabs on the back part of the plate into the top of the vault and push it back. Now that the back of the vault is secure, lift the front of the vault in line with two threaded holes in the front of the plate and use the two provided thumbscrews to secure from inside the vault. Once the vault door is closed, there is no access to these thumbscrews.. without unscrewing these, the vault can't be slid out of the mounting plate. The vault contains a nice padded shelf that slides out. You can even remove the shelf completely if you need more room or don't want the hassle of a sliding shelf. The shelf itself has metal tabs on it that allows it to slide completely out when pulled out PERFECTLY HORIZONTAL. If you let gravity do its thing when sliding the tray out, the back tabs will NOT slide out but rather act as a stop that allows the tray to dangle out and down at an angle for easy retrieval of the contents. A lip on the edge keeps everything from falling out.Spacewise, this vault's shelf has plenty of space for a CZ-75b 9mm pistol and at least one magazine. Larger firearms might need the shelf removed.I definitely recommend this vault! Solid construction and thoughtful design makes it a great place to store and retrieve a handgun or anything else you want to keep secure and close to you... whether it's medication you need to keep away from minors in the house, or your gold coins from Rosland Capital! As you can see in my pictures, I chose an easy access route rather than deep under the night table. Deeper under would make it undetectable, but require me to drop down to my knees and reach under for access. The way I have it now, I can literally reach and open with one hand while still laying in bed.Bear in mind that the only weak spot in the vault is where you mount it! I understand that if a thief want it, he can rip it off my night table or even take the whole night table. I suspect even a wall mount to a stud can be ripped out with a crowbar. Bottom line is, if someone wants the vault, they are going to get it...Getting it open won't be easy though.. small consolation but it is what it is.

Rugged and simple
Very solid. Lined tray is nice. Easily fits my compact with two mags. I like the separate mounting bracket so I can take it with me if I wish. The bracket is seems solid but the way it hinges in the back makes it looser than I would like. I like that you can use half pushes to double the # of combinations. Happy so far.Edit: Fyi, per V-Line "The ½ click is not easy to achieve correctly and may cause you problems down the road because you have to use the exact pressure / click or your case will not open. We do not recommend that you use ½ clicks."
