A good choice for travel

A very good guide for a trip to Denmark. In my case with a camper van.
Perfect with different routes to choose for all places in Denmark

New LP format lacks lots of detail. A different guide
The new format of LP is completely different, about 1/3 photos, max 3 restaurants/hotels per place and the smaller places you might stop to break up a trip are completely omitted. Also prices are omitted for everything, although these are quickly out of date they were still a rough guide ( which isprobably a better guidebook now) to make planning easier. Also although it's been happening over each edition LP gets more and more P.C each time, does anyone need 2 whole pages on Denmark's sustainability policy, and snide allusions to the Danes being racist?Overall I buy a travel guide to avoid having to plan through the internet, which is not possible with this guide, if you've ever used a LP guide before I recommend to avoid them in this new format.

Packed travel guide
I've always looked to Lonely Planet guides as the place to start planning any travels. This brand new Denmark edition is great.... Absolutely packed with information in a very neat sized and portable format. The fold out map of Copenhagen at the back is a great idea.

Disappointing
I find a guide book to be an indispensable planning tool and I never travel without one. I have been a big fan of Lonely Planet Guides but this one was a big let down for me. I don't know if this is a change of format or just a reflection of Denmark being a less popular destination but I thought it was lacking detail. The index is very sparse so its hard to find information in the book. The "getting there and away" sections that have been present in past guides for each region discussed were reduced to tiny boxes with very generic information. References to prices, opening times and websites were missing for major attractions and there was no list of local organizations providing tours, services or additional information. Attractions discussed were not clearly referenced on a map as they have been in previous guides. There was no detailed listing of accommodations or restaurants, again just a tiny box at the bottom of the page with one or two places mentioned and these were not shown on a map as in previous guides. Overall I found this book pretty useless.

No longer a good resource
Formatting of the guide is different than previous Lonely Planet guides. Find it to be quite worthless. Reads more like a travel blog with mentions of places to visit, but there’s no details about the places. There’s no summary of the sites, no contact information such as websites, hours, or prices. I know these details constantly change and require travel guides to be constantly updated, but it is helpful, and now no longer included. There’s no highlights or “top experiences”, nor ratings on what you should definitely see versus may just be interesting. It really just seems to be a summary of some of the top places, but no longer a useful comprehensive guide. If this is the way Lonely Planet is going to start writing and formatting their guides, I wouldn’t recommend them anymore. Just do good internet research and read travel blogs, because that’s all you’re getting in these books, and internet research is free.

So disappointing!
I have been using Lonely Planet guides since 2000 on six continents. They were always packed with information and very detailed. Recently I made one purchase of three new guides (Malta, Portugal, and Denmark) on Amazon and discovered that Lonely Planet has a new format. The guides are much more beautiful (lots of pictures) but have much less information, similar to a magazine article. I happen to have an old version of the Portugal Lonely Planet: old version 539 pages, very few pictures, new version 423 pages, a lot of pictures and waisted space. They no longer include their short but concise history section, detailed maps and there are a lot fewer accommodation suggestions. The organization is very confusing with a lot of repetition and even the witty writing has vanished. So disappointing!

Muy útil para viajar
Me encantan estas guías para viajar. El único inconveniente es que no está la versión en español, únicamente en inglés.

A New Format for Lonely Planet
For those who have been relying on Lonely Planet for decades for vital travel information, be aware that the new generation of guides are quite different from what came before. The new Denmark guide has cut out entire sections on local and regional transportation, accommodations, and other categories, supplying instead shorter and fewer recommendations for hotels, restaurants, and other tips. It is not a bad guide, just different.
