THE BRITISH DIONNE WARWICK SHARED THE SAME SONGS!
One of my favorite all-time favorite songs is, "You Are My World," by Cilla Black. I have it recorded as an oft played song in my collection. On ACORN TV (which we love for all the Brit mysteries and other Brit shows), a three part series was a pretty well done condensation of Cilla Black's life. The mini series was VERY interesting in its scope of history of Britain's heyday of the late 60's as she was just ONE of the two recording artists Brian Epstein wound up representing. The best known group, of course, was The Beatles! Epstein chose ONLY the best to represent, regardless of his personal struggle with "demons" and alcohol.Cilla Black was undoubtedly the "British" Dionne Warwick as their sound was very much alike, and indeed, they recorded MANY of the same songs thanks to Burt Bacharach. It seemed as if Bacharach intended for Black to sound almost just LIKE Warwick as was witnessed on the many, many "takes" of "Anyone Who Had a Heart," it took before Bacharach was pleased enough to release it in Britain. Among the Bacharach songs was "Alfie," but there were several more. This compilation of all-time best hits was begun the day after Cilla Black's death in honor of her MANY hits in England. The ACORN mini series about Black's singing career is well worth your time if you like the late 60's Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Peter and Gordon and several others including the famous British female singers of that time like Dusty Springfield, Lulu and such. This is a very interesting and music filled series, well done, and the lip syncs and the impersonations of the actual groups was as impeccable as could be. Black was VERY well known in Britain, but we in America, were, at the time, pleasantly inundated with Warwick's releases of much of the same music. Epstein was afraid that Black's popularity could not cross the Atlantic and, thusly, Black never really ever reached the heights of which she was most likely entitled due to her inimitable talent. Also of interest is the love life of Cilla Black and how her boy friend, then to be husband, supported her and encouraged her. Seeing the listing of all of the songs on this album, especially after seeing the mini series, was a MUST purchase for me. Oh, my! There is no way to describe the beauty and control Cilla had of every single song on the album. For aficionados of this time of British music, this is also a MUST purchase for you! "You Are My World," is just the start followed by, "Anyone Who Had a Heart," and on and on with wonderful music for any Baby Boomer. WHAT a voice we were all blessed with when Cilla Black was discovered and promoted! Thank you, Brian Epstein, you knew a pure, beautiful voice when you heard it! Black could have DEFINITELY crossed the Atlantic many times if only her handlers had allowed her to!

I love Cilla, but not all of the songs on this album
This album is a great representation of the singer at the height of her craft. However, there are only three epic songs on this album, in my opinion: “Anyone Who Had a Heart”, “Alfie”, and “You’re My World”.The aforementioned songs were written and conducted by Burt Bacharach, and produced by George Martin at Abbey Road Studios in London. That said, if you can stomach some of the less enthralling 1960s commercial productions, you might love it all.Introduced by John Lennon to Beatles’ manager, Brian Epstein, Cilla was a once-in-a-lifetime great Pop singer-performer. She rose to the top from humble beginnings in Liverpool to become an award-winning artist and television host, earning the highest salary of any female in her field.

The Best of Cilla Black's Sixties Brit Hits
Ordered this as a gift for my better half after we watched the Cilla bio flick on Acorn. Neither of us knew much about her or her career (just "You're My World," really), so the picture was a real eye-opener. Anyway, this is a pretty terrific -- and complete -- hits overview for a single-disc compilation. Highlights include her excellent versions of Anyone Who Had a Heart, Alfie, It's For You, and the aforementioned US hit, You're My World. Good, if brief, liner notes, very good remastered sound, solid 14-song track list. Highly recommended for fans of '60s British pop -- and who among us isn't?

Remastered Nostalgia
I'd forgotten what a VOICE Cilla Black has! Strong with unique artistic interpretation. Great collection of songs that evoke nostalgia of the 1960s. The remastered CD sounds as though it was recently recorded.

Damaged
Took forever to get here, arrived damaged, and the sound had been remastered so several tracks had Cilla's voice drowned out by the orchestration
