Back with a bang!
No 1 on the US Billboard 100 US charts as well as topping the charts in several other countries, show this band have not lost their powerful and original approach to Metal. With David Draiman working with "Device" for the last few years and nothing new from the band since "Asylum" was released in 2010, except the "Lost Children" compilation, die hard fans like me were getting a little frustrated. The band maintained for the last five years that they hadn't spilt up but equally released no information as to when the fans could expect something new. With such a short time between the band announcing they had been working on a new album and it's release, I was a little worried that what with David's work with Device, that "Immortalized" may have been a little rushed..........No Way! It is very clear from the quality of songs that a lot of thought and time has gone into producing this album and it is a clear evolution from the Asylum album.Thinks to particularly note: "The Vengeful One" is a powerful and well crafted song that is most worthy of reaching the No1 spot in the US Rock charts. Even though this band aren't really about singles. You can see links in the promo video to their take on Phil Collins "Land of Confusion", which they covered on their 2005 album "Ten Thousand Fists". There is a clear link between the stories told in the videos released for these songs; with "The Guy", defending the weak against the evil strong who are intent on war mongering and making money at any cost, without a thought about the people. If only The Guy would ride into London and do something about David Cameron before this country slips further into fascism as we lose our freedoms on the internet, rights to privacy etc"Dan Donnegan" has experimented further with his lead guitar solos, which are more proliferate in this album than any of the previous releases. At last David has something positive to write about his personal life, after at long last finding love with ex WWE model Lena Yada. Having a young child obviously agrees with him too and "You're Mine", is clearly written about finding the right girl, after a string of relationships that turned sour. They invariably release a cover version on each album, but "Sound of Silence", really seems an unusual choice. Yes, David sings it well with a novel approach that's far better than Art Garfunkel [any competent singer could manage that] but after their previous choices of such seminal Metal cover songs like "Midlife Crisis" and "Fade to Black", this was a little disappointing for me.Writing a song specifically about cannabis [Fire it Up] is very direct for the band, who historically don't write much drug related material, but it's a great track with some of the lyrics a little tongue in cheek methinks. As always, both religion and politics are in the mix and "Save Our Last Goodbye" is one of the few Metal [or NU Metal, if you like genres, which I don't] songs to tug at my heart strings. Maybe it was written from a band members personal experience, like with "Inside the Fire" from the "Indestructible" album, no doubt all will be revealed in time.Overall a great album. If you like Disturbed then BUY IT; you won't be disappointed

It's softer music
Bought it as a gift. There are some good songs on this cd. Thought it would have been heavier. Would recommend

Balanced, Brilliant - Album of the Year
It's a dangerous thing reviewing an album because opinions can get heated, especially when you have negative comments. Thankfully with this latest from Disturbed I can hand on heart say that there is little not to love. It's immediately engaging and has the depth to be a bit of a grower too.Funny thing is that I looked at quite a few online magazine reviews out of interest and there were a number that really slated this - which seems extraordinary given that this really is a superb album. My feeling is that 'metal' has to be seen and heard to be extreme otherwise it has no validity to some. Which is daft because the best loved bands over the years have all produced songs that are catchy with hooks that grab you.And of course Disturbed have managed this perfectly. Whilst having many of the elements of a hard core metal band they also have a few fingers in the pie of commercial success - which they have been - by making sure there is a bit of melody in there music.Draimen is on superb form soaring across the heavy guitars and subtle keyboards. The bass section is tight and pounding. Great stuff.Songs are storming. Disturbed have given a balanced record with pure heavy metal mixed with differently paced and in the case of Song of Silence straight up folk. My personal favourite is 'The Light,' which is ridiculously catchy.Overall I'd say that this must be one of the albums of the year.

Great album
Bought this album on the strength of the one single Sound of Silence and this time I wasn't disappointed. Definitely great range of different songs that i believe they have amassed from previous albums. Loud, brash and great range. They really know how to play and wow I love it. The lead singers voice has an amazing vocal range and is deep and haunting. Really loved this one and definitely an album that will be staying in the car cd player for a while

It is all about The Sound of Silence
I bought this for the key track The Sound of Silence. It is not the first time I have bought a cd or record for one track though I guess streaming has made the decision making a little different. I also read the reviews that seemed to indicate that the rest of the tracks were not that "heavy" - they are. So the rest of the album is not quite what I tend to like. If you like this genre you will probably like this I suspect. I knew it was a risk but the one track does make it worthwhile as I am still "old school" as I like to have the physical disc. Hence 3 stars, nothing wrong with the cd or music just not my taste overall. Some music has been known to grow on me, so maybe.

and loved the lead singer's vocals
I only really got into rock and metal/grunge big time in the last 10 years. I had never heard of Disturbed, but heard their version of Sound of Silence on Planet Rock (and Radio 2 at work!), and loved the lead singer's vocals; I had to find out more about the band. I listened to a few of their songs on Youtube, and decided to buy Immortalized. I love them! They remind me a little of Staind and System of a Down with their style, slightly grungy metal, but they have their own take on it, and David Draiman's voice is amazing! Wikepedia have his voice down as "distorted"; I would say he has a wide range, and the edge needed for the genre. I have now also bought The Sickness and Asylum, and love those albums too.
