It is called “vegetable” because of the natural tannins used in the tanning process. What makes vegetable tanning so unique is that it can be used to make thicker leather and results in more body and character which is perfect for bag making. Vegetable tanned leather also tends to age better and develops a rich patina over time. The 'shiny crunch' on this particular product is created by finishing with an application of lacquer. Q: Is the bag big and heavy as i dont want it to be bulky and heavy ?

Hi there, yes this bag is big not really heavy though but depends what you want to use it for, perfect for a work bag cos can get loads of stuff in it, go for the smaller one if you want a a more dressy bag. Although this is a beautiful soft glass leather bag, I love mine, if your unsure send for both sizes & send one back. Hope this helps.

Q: Is this bag big enough for a Mac type laptop?

The size of this bag is H 27 cm, W 37 cm, D 13 cm - handles: 60 cm, drop: 25 cm. I can get my iPad Pro in it, just about, so don’t think a laptop would fit in! Anyway if you measure your laptop against the bag size above you’ll know. Sorry I can’t help further.
