POE and managed in the cloud
Good switch. Half poe. Works great for my needs. I use it to setup APs for Sites I install. Supports VLANs which is nice. Cloud management is definitely functional and does give some analytical data.

Fantastic "Prosumer" Switch
Summary:Everything most home lab or SOHO users need in a switch at an attractive price.Details:Prior to my current career, I was studying for my Cisco networking certifications which left me somewhat dismissive of consumer-level gear. In particular, I've always felt the need for a nice managed switch. Unfortunately it is just hard to justify buying a $1,000 infrastructure switch or even a $500 Ubiquity, and a lot of the other "managed" switches for home users are light on features. After all, if I am honest I just need a couple of VLANs and a few PoE ports. This piece of Aruba kit perfectly balances price and features. It provides you with 24 ports (12 Power-over-Ethernet), 2 SFP to provide interface options, and all the features most people need. Even better it has an easy to access, local web-interface that makes setting VLANs and debugging problems exceedingly easy. In particular, I really like the PoE interface which clearly explains how many watts each device is using and can even prioritize shutdowns in the case of an overly large power demand. It even has a well documented CLI interface if you prefer that.In addition to the basics it has most of the options I could see needing in a SOHO setup like spanning tree protocol and port mirroring. And all of this is clearly exposed, if not explained, in the web interface. I haven't tried their remote interface and I probably will not as I prefer to run things locally, but it is a nice option to have.In addition, the hardware is solid and has a fan that changes speed depending on load. In my rack I think it is off most of the time... or at least is quieter than the other fans in the system. The only downside I see to it, ironically given its name, is that it takes a bit longer to come up after being turned on and off than I would prefer. It isn't a huge deal because this will likely be restarted once every six months or so!If you know enough about networks to need a managed switch, this will be easy to operate and setup. Plus I think it hits a real sweet spot between price and performance.

Expensive for home network, not quite robust enough for business/enterprise
This Aruba (by HP) 1830 24-port gigabit PoE smart switch is taking an aim at the small business market that Ubiquiti has dominated lately. The switch is made well, has a solid feature set, but is lacking in the overall ecosystem. The switch allows you to segment traffic and create vlans, set bandwidth limits, and manage (this part of) your network via their app, but is lacking other core features that you get with the "other guys." Because this system doesn't include a firewall or router, it's not a total solution, like the UDM Pro or SE. And Aruba doesn't seem to offer that component, so you're stuck mixing and matching different brands, meaning you need multiple apps or systems to manage your network. I tried it out, but in the end decided to go with the Ubiquiti UDM Pro for my small business network.

Very Powerful Switch with Super Convenient Features
I have only ever used basic unmanaged switches. So this was a new experience for me. It does take a couple of minutes to boot up which is different from the unmanaged switches I'm used to. Account setup on the mobile app was easy so by the time the switch was booted up I was already logged in to the Aruba cloud. All I had to do then was scan the bar code on the switch and add it to my account and then the software updated automatically. The app adds a lot of convenience allowing you to monitor port status, PoE power usage, and basic device info. For me, this is serious overkill for my home network, but I ordered this to help me learn VLANs and also to provide for POE if I decide to add security cameras or other POE devices in the future.Overall, this is a very nice switch, the cloud management or local portal seems easy enough to use and it has not caused any issues since I first set it up. I love that I have POE options as well as the SFP connections. The only semi-complaint I have is that I wish it was 2.5GbE instead of 1GbE speed. I feel like that would really future-proof it and move it into the upper range of small or home networks that this switch is already marketed towards.
