Q: Will this fit into a g1/8 female thread?

If the Oil Burner Pump has a 1/4" plug then this will fit. It has an 1/8 BSP thread. Remove the plug using a hexagonal key. If the oil burner is supplied with an oil bleed stem, then remove this and replace with the boiler bleed.

Q: I fitted the valve but the part the oil bleeds from is pointing upwards which makes it hard to capture the oil when bleeding - can I change that?

Fit a small flexible tube to the bleed point and collect the oil in a small can.

It screws into the bleed off valve connector and forms a seal until you press the button on the end, when it then lets any air trapped in the oil feed line to come out. It helps because you can run the pump a little with connector in and then allow the built up air (and a little oil) out by pressing the button periodically. Without it you constantly allow the air and more oil out through the bleed hole. It does not change what you do it just makes it easier and hopefully less mess.
