It goes *PING*!
This is the exact sound I wanted: a single, clear *PING* rather than a *DRRRRING*. If you want to *P-PING* it, you can do that too. If you change your mind and want to clamp your hand over it, you can make it *PI* without the *NG*. I've seen people saying it's not very loud, but it seems pretty loud to me. You can make it a little louder or softer depending on how far you push down the button. That would be a *ping*.I had to use it for the first time yesterday when I encountered a man who was standing and talking through the wide-open passenger door of his friend's car that was parked up on the dedicated bike path, completely blocking it (which is illegal). I hoped the "ping" would make him stand up and close the door over at least part of the way to make room for me to pass, but he ignored it because he was a terrible, selfish, no-good person. I had to weave around the car door, and then suddenly came upon a 8" high kerb horizontally blocking my path - my view of which had been obscured by the door - which resulted in me getting a huge lump on my leg from slamming the pedal into my shin during the sudden stop. It is currently black and purple and green. Oh, and then the horrible man shouted at *me*, even though I hadn't so much as given him what would have been a justified stern look. GOOD TIMES.However, I don't think that this is anything to do with the bell not being audible, I think it's because he was a stupid jerkface with weevil-infested brains and a cavernous hole where his heart should be.In short, I like this bell. At first I didn't realise you can rotate it so that the button is facing the direction of your choice. (In my defence, it didn't come with any diagrams that would suggest its true capabilities). I thought to myself, "this is awkward as hell and I don't know how I'll ever reach it in an emergency!" but then I saw that my nephew's bike had the button facing to the side and I tried rotating mine and it turned. Give me an award for ingenuity, please.I am docking one star because I'm fairly sure we're paying for the brand name with this one; a cheaper bell might be just as good. Also, it's really *tall* - it's hard for me to find a position on my handlebars that doesn't result in it blocking the numbers on my gear switches, so I keep it closer to the middle which isn't that easy to reach. But overall, I'm happy with it... or I will be when my shin returns to its former state.

Loud enough for off road only
I am a regular MTB cyclist and I ride off and on road. This bell is perfect for towpath or footpath cycling where you have pedestrians in front with their backs turned and you wish to get by.Coughing is a pain in the throat so this bell does the job for you perfectly. Its no good for traffic however as it gets drowned out by road noise. I find yelling at motorists is much more satisfying.the only downside to this bell is the mounting method, there is a screw turn type affair which tightens up on the grooved strap you can see. This has a habit of coming loose so I haven't cut the excess off for fear of it coming loose enough to detach from the bike.It probably needs a spot of glue or similar to stop the loosening action through vibration.Otherwise a "sound" investment.

I had mine for £6, where Amazon get off putting it up to £15 is beyond me and logic.
I had mine for £6, where Amazon get off putting it up to £15 is beyond me and logic. So this review is based upon the £6 selling price. It is just a bell, loud, clear and removes those pesky pedestrians on the cycle path (yes big 6 inch line the middle with a picture of a person on one side and a bicycle on the other does indeed, indicate where we both should be), I digress :).The actual loop, geared fitting is a rather brilliant feature and easy to install. The best feature for me is that you can angle the thumb press left and right. This may sound insignificant, but given my gear mechs are right next to the handgrips, reaching the old bell (which fell off on the rough road of the Black Mountain) was hard work and I had to let go of the grip to use. Having the ability to angle towards the grip, means I can retain full control of steering while annoying the hell out of those pesky bipeds with the tintinnabulation of my cateye bell.DO wait until they are £6 again though :)

Cateye Bike Bell - Great Product
Order this on my prime account as part of an add on and recieved the next day well package. The bell did appear big when I open the box and though it may look out of place on my bike. In actual fact the bell is well designed and ergonomically designed to fit any bike inthe right position.Fitting was extremely easy and I place it above my shifters close the right hand grip. Being about to adust the bell to suit, it is easy to active with taking my hand off the grip or away from gear/pedals. I ride off round in the Devils Punch Bowl, Surrey most days and with lots of walkers and dog walkers I can now alert them much easier than my old bell. Some reviews state the bell is not loud, but I'd disagree - when fitted correctly - a quick flick of the thumb and 'ding' people know I'm flying up behind them and I now longer spend all my time slowing down and speeding up again. Thanks

Great little bell - does the trick
this is the perfect bell for a bike to warn people that you are approaching without making them jump out of their skin! it took me a little while how to work out how to put it on my handlebars and it does keep slipping a bit but I think that's down to me, not the product.

Great bell
Great item, ordered for my road bike as the bars have a larger diameter so needed a bell that was more adjustable, and this is perfect, easy to install. great "ding", perfect for footpaths and also loud enough to be heard in traffic, can be heard from quite a distance away. overall very pleased.
